I've been streaming video to my Elite over the network from a XP PC for a long time. Lots of movies stored on a 2TB USB drive. Worked great. But, have a new pc running Win 8. No joy. Elite now brings up a dialog box requesting a Login Name and Password. Try as I might in changing network and drive settings, I have not gotten it to work. I'm probably missing some little obscure setting. Not happy with Win 8. Appreciate any suggestions.

(Login name has an "@" in it. Is this on the Elite Remote keypad?)

I don't use Win8 as I'm still on XP, so I can't help there.  But re the "@", you can connect a USB keyboard to type characters not on the remote.

Hopefully you can find a way of turning off the security for the drive, but USB drives may behave differently since they aren't permanent. You may have to deal with this every time.

Got around the problem by copying all of the video files from the WIN 8 pc to a USB drive on a networked WIN XP PC. Took 28 hours. Lots of gb's. Works ok now. After lots and lots of Googleing for work-arounds and trying same, I could not drop the Elite's need for a user name and password requirement to access the video files on the WIN 8 pc hdd. Bummer but I'm back in business despite WIN 8's security.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
