It may just be my receiver but I'd rather see what others think... I started having a problem today...I am getting 95%+ signal Q on my Coolsat 8000 but after watching for about 10 minutes, the picture starts to flake out and I get an "INVALID FORMAT" message on my TV. I've never seen this before! Could my box be on the fritz right now or is there something else I'm not taking into consideration?

hi forevergreat I havnt used my cs8000 in a while... is it possible its overheating? have you tried reloading the factory FW? is the "invalid format" message from the tv? or the coolsat?

Hey beano, Thanks for the ideas... I never had this problem before so overheating wasn't even something that I had considered. I had my dish mover on top inside a entertainment unit but I ended up moving my dish mover onto another shelf and pulled the 8000 out from the enclosure...fixed the problem. I'm just a little confused on why after approximately 5 years with this configuration that it would only begin overheating now. I've definitely gotta go AZ once I have the funds to make it happen... Thanks again!

just a guess but maybe the dust buildup in the interior of the enclosure after about 5 yrs would be enough to reduce any cooling capacities the receiver was designed to have. Also, the added heat from the dish mover receiver would most certainly exacerbate the problem. Thats my best guess. If you wanna get rid of the coolie in the future let me know. Personally, I like them alot.

There's no dust in/on the Coolsat...clean as a whistle. It seems that it being enclosed in the shelving area and having the dish mover on top did it for some reason. Like I said, never had that problem before now...

maybe just getting in its own shelf and away from any other source of heat will be good enough to remedy the problem. also its better for it to be out in the open and not in an enclosure/cabinet. good luck with it, i hope she holds up for ya.

Yeah, that would do it. The CS8000 doesn't have a fan. The CS8100 { pretty much identical except for USB} has a fan, but a tiny one, and it will keep the 8100 cool if the 8100 doesn't have anything on top of it, but if you put another receiver box on top of it, it will overheat, and go berserk. What I did for a while was put a big 4" computer fan on top of the 8100, but if you keep it on it's own shelf it should be OK.

agreed. what is interesting with his comments is the fact that he has had it this way for some time and never before had those issues. I thought dust buildup etc. but not that. I don't know, maybe just electronic wear and tear.
