Is my Azbox Elite dying?  [frown]

In the last week or so my Elite appears to have gotten sick.  Looking for a healing prescription from the satellite doctors out there.

Symptoms:  All incoming signal goes away on C and Ku on all birds for no apparent reason.  Reboot brings everything back to normal.  But usually within an hour, picture locks up and and no signals can be seen on any channels.  Signal also tends to go away faster when I start pressing any buttons on the remote (channel change, settings menus, etc.).  Also, once I lose all signal, notice that when I am searching frequencies in the TV settings menu (advanced scan), that every frequency on every bird says 100% signal strength (blue bar) instead of the normal variances in strength you would typically see.

I've made no changes to my system and my DSR-922 and Manhattan RS-1933 are functioning the same as always.

I have been running firmware 9.5402 for a couple years.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Sure sounds like the tuner is going bad pops...Had the same symptoms you describe happen to my Elite and a new tuner fixed it.

Thanks HN.  I'm guessing tuners are not as readily available as they used to be?

Took another approach.  I checked and my hardware acceleration was on.  I turned it off and receiver has worked fine for the past 3 hours.  Will continue to monitor, but hopefully this fixed it.

I went back through a number of threads that discuss hardware acceleration and didn't come away with any conclusions on it being the cuplrit.  Some people say hardware acceleration worked well for them and some said it didn't.  With all the different Azbox models out there, it was hard to tell if HA works on some and not others.  I think the Elite was either the first or second model released, so maybe HA not so good for Elite.  I guess I'll find out.

Re tuners being available, I was looking through ebay a couple weeks ago, and noticed some people selling Azbox tuners for both the Elite/Premium and Premium Plus.  You have to be careful to get the correct one for your model.

Re hardware acceleration, that sounds like a likely culprit to me.  When that became an option in the firmware, I remember a bunch of posts that mentioned strange problems.  Some people had to turn it on to get some capability, then turn it off to avoid problems.  Because there were problems reported, I've generally kept it turned off on my elite.
But it seems to make sense that that could result in overheating, which could end up slowing down the processor to a crawl.

Thanks wejones.  The receiver has been on now for about 20 hours straight. I have changed channels and gone into multiple menus, and it is working normally.  I wish I could remember if the hardware acceleration has been on for weeks or months or some length of time, and did not affect functionality until recently.  From what I've read in other posts, it seems like HA is really only good for recording and playing back, which I do not do on the Elite anyway, so I'll leave it off, and hopefully it continues to work.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
