Before trying to scan on an ME using older 3.3.1 kernel to capture newer KRBK and CBS feeds that newer cannot do, I want to update my customized satellites.xml file. This is an existing entry from it for 4100H@97W (CBS before switch from MPEG2 to MPEG4):
Code:
<transponder frequency="4100000" symbol_rate="29856000" polarization="0" fec_inner="9" system="1" modulation="2"/>

I can't remember what system and modulation represent. Searching for "system=" only returns hits that do not include "=", so are useless.
I know one of them is for DVB-S vs. DVB-S2, but not which, nor what the other is for. Anyone here know?

I would assume 'system' refers to the 'delivery system' and 'modulation' is well, modulation.
Given CBS has been using delivery system DVB-S2 and modulation of 8PSK for a long time, and the
4100 TP has always been H on that satellite... Assuming them settings worked for you in the past I would
think you shouldn't need to update it?

Thanks to both!

That I used a CBS transponder as example was only coincidence. A lot has changed since my last significant edits.

Captain's pointer to his Editing an XML file for the ME on 2012-

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
