However, unless you think it's at a site that Rick wouldn't want posted, I wonder if you could indicate where you found the files needed?  Looks like you need

backup_kernel
update
and
vmlinux.bin

Just sent you a PM

I just re -did this whole procedure, much easier this time, but still some glitches [frown]
The new set of instructions, leaves out a few details from the old set..LOL! So, I had to spend a few minutes going back to check on some things before I did anything.

NOW, I'm sitting here, and I need to do the standard Azbox procedure to load a bin.... you know, the one where you rename it patch.bin and put in on the root of a thumb drive....   BUT, it's been so long since I did that, that I'm not sure how that works...

I think I boot the AZ with the thumb drive in (but is it in the front,or the back, or does it matter?),,, then what happens? does it automatically load it? or, what do I do?
Also, the instructions said I need to ... at the update screen, select #4. Format application area, then #1. Upgrade USB

The front usb port is fine..Once you power up the AZ with the usb stick in with new file named patch.bin...Wait til you see checking on the front display then click the ok button on remote repeatedly and it will bring you to the blue screen with options you mentioned...Update the app area at least 3 times then click on usb update..

Congratulations techjunkie.Great job.[thumb]

Oh well!!!   Still stays with "BOOTING" on the front, nothing happens.
If i press and hold POWER button for a few seconds, it will then say,
"REBOOT" for a second and then go back to "BOOTING" !!!

I'm pretty sure I did it all correctly!  Now what??

It wasn't part of the instructions from the puTTY interface!
And, it won't boot, get past the BOOTING screen, so I cannot get to it to do it!

Format the application area isn't done in Putty.  It is done when you install a USB drive with patch.bin in the root and boot the AZBOX up.   If that doesn't work then you will have to do the whole procedure again as something isn't quite right or you missed a step.

Do you happen to have a copy of a known good procedure?  I have followed this procedure twice now, the first time was a learning adventure..lol!! The second time I thought sure that I had done everything as per the instructions! BUT, these instructions from the web, you never know how good they are, so maybe it's messed up!  I see a lot of instructions out there, and most of them are in other languages, or half broken translations, so I can't understand them. I'll keep digging and see what I turn up.
Thanks,

No like I stated before it must have been on my one hard drive that crashed and I lost it.

I wood look for another thumb drive and try it all again, here I have some Pansat usb sticks from  when I bought the 9000 years ago their small I think 256mb, the smaller the better for this, I ran into a problem of my Elite not seeing the file on some usb sticks. also make sure that the file is unzipped or extracted, and format the stick before you put the file on it, here I do FAT32. but this time rename the file to "patch" WITH OUT THE QUOTES!!! and then retry it like Hockey said, and if the receiver is ready to take the file you should be good, but if not then you may be back to square one. with Windows some computers will put a .bin after a file name on its own.

It never powers the USB ports as far as I can tell, I've tried 2 diff thumbs one was a 128M and the other a 1GB. They're good drives, but they never even blink the light on 'em! And the VFD display has BOOTING and the spinning disc on it. If I hold the power button down for about 3 seconds, the display changes to REBOOT for a second, then back to BOOTING.

I wonder if I can reformat the application area and install the operating bin via the serial cable connection using puTTY, PumpKIN, and FileZilla??  It is a linux system, I think... oh well[crazy]

Its been a few years since we first started testing the AZbox. At the beginning many of us were bricking our AZBoxes in one way or another. This thread is bringing back memories.  I see your problem started from attempting to revert back from E2. There was a program designed especially for this, JaZUp,  did you use it? If not I have the entire folder with all the files. I never used it so I can't tell you much about it but I will attach it for you to look at. Read the entire pdf. It may be too late though.

As far as loading a patch I don't think you are going to have any luck if you can't get past "booting" you would need to see "checking" next where it is looking for the stick.

There is an old post if you have not already seen it which gives some info.

I hope some of this helps.

Yes Chris, thank you, I would love to have the jAZup if for no other reason than to satisfy my curiosity. I got my first AZ back in 2008 or 9, and I remember the horror stories..LOL Why I never used anything other than a factory bin in my AZ. This one I got from someone else and it had OpenATV on it. I didn't know how to use it and wanted to go back to a stock bin, that's when I ended up with the "BOOTING"-forever, problem! I think this is why I got rid of my old AZ, I didn't want a chance at this headache...why I got another one is ..???

I had to remove some language files to make it small enough to attach. It is there now. Give it a shot. I would love to know if it works out for you.

It's actually called AZUp and if you used the wrong version you could brick your receiver.  The latest I believe is 2.2.7 so make sure you are using that.  JAZUP is another version altogether which is similar but I would use the AZUP 2.2.7.
