Hi, i have had an openbox s10 for at least 3 years now and I have not flashed it with any firnware whatsoever since I got it, and suddenly today it said "your box is a clone version", the screen looked as if it was on PAL, the display said "COPY" and would not respond to the remote. I unplugged it for a bit, turned it on and now nothing comes up... any idea on what I could or should do besides throwing it away?

Interesting...my old S9 just today quit outputting HDMI for no apparent reason...still works on video out tho...if I were you, I'd try reloading some firmware and see if that helps? I'm going to try that with mine later on, I'm just too angry at it for quitting right now to deal with it so I shut it off..everything nowadays is made sure to fail after warranty expires to force you to buy the latest and greatest junk just to have it happen all over again after it's warranty..grrr...I miss the old days when capacitors lasted 10 years or more, now you're lucky to get a year out of a capacitor..

The hdmi issue is likely the same issue I have. Mine quit about a year or two ago. Don't have a solution as it seems like a hardware problem.
The clone thing dunno, never had one.

I have my S10 running fine and dandy for now.

A friend told me that there were a few S10's that were original but for some odd reason the firmware sometimes recognized them as clones, now, the firmware i was using was the original that came with the box.

My box's chip ID is 085B.

I guess somehow it got corrupted after so many sat scans because I have not flashed it, just once last year I had to take it to an electric repair shop so they could change a capacitor that was bad.

The way I fixed it was flashing it with a file dated june 21 of 2011, with the EROM_Upgrade tool.

I can upload it to google drive or something like that to share it with the forum, I don't know if its available here or if its permitted to put a link.

Thanks for the input guys.

PS
If the HDMI out in an openbox is not working, would it work by changing the connector? I've seen DVD players with HDMI out in thrift stores that can be picked up for a couple of bucks, maybe it would be worth a try for when HDMI output is not working (not my case).

Seems that the HDMI failure is pretty common.  Mine quit also on my S9.  The other outputs still work OK.

hey Mustang...BINGO!

yesterday suddenly my S10 refused to scan ANY channels.
everything worked great but just kept getting a message
that read, "NO CHANNELS FOUND"

WHICH SAT OR KU/CBAND DIDN'T MATTER.

SO I UNPLUGGED IT AND LET IT SIT OVER NIGHT.

this morning i hooked it back up to see if there were any changes.

the box came "on" ...then said "boot" and immediately switched to a new screen....lol

it reads:

YOUR BOX IS A CLONE
YOUR BOX IS A CLONE
YOUR BOX IS A CLONE
YOUR BOX IS A CLONE
YOUR BOX IS A CLONE

that message vanished after about 20 seconds.

I don't see how that could happen unless you have a network cable hooked up to it, and it got hacked.

The simpler explanation is that the firmware itself is buggy and/or has become corrupted somehow, so the message is a "false positive".
