I do believe this will be a short list because the SF4008 is a nice unit from the get go.

I`m hoping the Octagon engineers can develop the drivers for 4:2:2 chroma to work.Box fully capable of this with the Broadcom 7251 chipset.

Good Morning Hockeynut!

We did have a good chat with my Rep from Octagon yesterday and I made the comment about the good things that are being said about this receiver here in N. America and that we sold out quickly and have wired payment for an order twice the size.  I also gave him a link to our forum here.

We also had to open a new Import Account with DHL and also negotiate with them to get the best price that we could for air freight imports.

Air freighting in this new order of 8 cases cost a LOT more than DHL Post and sadly this has to be passed on in the price of the new order, as they will be $269.00 plus $15.00 for shipping.

Those of you that are already on the new pre-order list, I will honor the price from the first offer of 249.00 and I will pay the shipping. All new orders will have to be at the new price.  Express shipping is just not cheap.  But DHL has their own Customs service and the order will hopefully be here between the 15th and 22nd of this month.

In my discussion with Octagon, the one thing I asked about again was 4:2:2 and told him how successful the AZ Box Receivers were and that they did not do 4:2:2 at first, but once they gave us a software fix that allowed them to do 4:2:2 and then later a model that would do blind scan, that over time, we sold over 750 AZ Boxes.  So I am hoping that selling out of the first order and placing a 2nd order for twice as many and then discussing the past success of the AZ Box that it will increase their interest in pursuing 4:2:2 and he did say that he was going to push the engineers again.  I also offered more recorded streams if they need them.

Next on the list, but not discussed yesterday, is Blind scan.  I am willing to change my order of requests as needed, but I normally don't give a large long list of things, but instead ask for 1 thing at a time that I think would help us the most here as hobbyists.  Since most users already have a way to Blind scan, I still think 4:2:2 for MPEG2, MPEG4 and 4K would be the most important thing.

Thanks,

Rick

I agree..1 at a time...4:2:2 much more important than blind scan.Any recordings I can share for an MPEG4 4:2:2 feed I am willing.Thanks Rick.[smile].

One more item for the wish list.

It would be nice if they could give an option in the setup or change the programming to recognize sat transponders that have the guide data in ATSC format instead of normal DVB format.
A good example of this is the LPB transponder on SES3 at 87W, ie 11812 H 11150 DVBS2 3/5.  The Octagon plays the channels fine, but there is no guide data when you go into the program guide. This was the same for Azbox too, as well as some computer based programs, however TSREADER does show the guide data.
I'm guessing that this might be as simple as changing the PIDs that the data is on, but it's probably complicated that the ATSC format has the guide data spread over several PIDs.
Anyway, if you think this would be worth asking for, I could upload a few minutes of the LPB mux, and point out which PIDs have the data.

   Thanks.    Great receiver so far.

Actually, yet another item for wish list, ie getting the HDHomeRun-8VSB to work with the Octagon.
Since the HDHR works in Linux, it might not be to hard to get it to run, using a plug in player, provided that drivers have been or could be created for it,  but I have no idea what would be involved with getting it the Octagon to take the network stream and play and record programs as if coming from another tuner.

I would think you could get the guide with a simple plug in ? Since this is an open source firmware I'd be surprised if it wasn't already available.

Is the hardware capable of 4:2:2 (mpeg2, mpeg4, both?) or would decoding be via software?

I don't know for sure.  Maybe someone else does.  The Broadcom Chipset that AZ Box used could do 4:2:2, but it took a software update, so were all hoping that this Broadcom Chipset being used in the Octagon can also do 4:2:2 with a software update.

My Rep at Octagon also seems to think the hard ware should be able to handle it and said he would push the engineers again.

Rick,  Thanks for the update.   You mentioned sending Octagon 4:2:2 recordings, were they interested enough to accept them from you?   Did you send mpeg4 and/or mpeg2?

hi mr3p,

We keep sending them, but we don't know if the engineers have tried or not.  My rep said he would push the engineers again.

I sent them recordings of 4:2:2 MPEG4.

Thanks,

Rick

That would be so great if the SF 4008 could do 4:2:2 MPEG4.
I am going to try to make up a mount for the Octagon OSLO lnb that you sent me Rick on my 9 foot Spun Aluminum BUD today, so tonight when it cools off a bit i can get it mounted & try testing it out.
But if i run into issues i will just mount it on 30 inch Fortec Star with motor & try a few Ku feeds that Mike post this weekend. But my plans are to have it on the BUD permanently.
Thanks Rick.
