Should I have been able to receive the below feed on a KU-band set up?  I tried within about 20 minutes of the posting and couldn't get it.  I usually have good luck picking up feeds. I had a couple of footballs games, 4 channels that scan in as "service 1, 2,..." and a couple of scrambled feeds. I can usually get the curling feeds on G17.

Also the blind scan took just a few minutes but the normal scan took forever?

I running a:

90 CM Dish
Linkbox 9000i
Avenger PLL321S-2

in central Pennsylvania.

Thanks, nger PLL321S-2ger PLL321S-2

gittist -

I have a 1.2m Geosatpro fixed dish on G17 and an Invacom SNH 031 LNB.
The feed for the HNIC game last night wasn't as strong as the ABC N1 feeds on 12011V, but it certainly wasn't marginal - I had a solid lock.
I didn't hook up my Sathero meter to get the S/N reading, but I did look at the (much less accurate) SQ reading on my Linkbox 8000 - it was in the high 80s.
For reference, I get in the low 90s on the ABC N1 feeds, and a SQ of 66 is the minimum to get a lock with the Linkbox.
A SQ of 98 seems to be the maximum, from e.g. the VAKN feeds on G18 (1m dish), the NBC SR=30K network feeds on SES-3 (1m dish), and the CTV channels on Anik F1R (2.4m dish).

Hard to say if you should have had a lock with a 90cm dish. Usually a SQ in the high 80s on the Linkbox indicates the signal is using half the available power (and bandwidth) for that xponder, in my experience - that would fit with the fact the SR was 7500. My best guestimate is that *yes*, your 90cm dish should have received enough signal to get a lock, but the trouble could have been that, because smaller dishes also receive more interference from adjacent satellites, it was receiving too much "noise" from a signal close in frequency on a nearby satellite. It might have been worth your while to try bumping the dish a bit to see not only if it was peaked, but sometimes with a smaller dish, you need to point it slightly off target to minimize interference.

I have a 90cm fixed dish on AMC-15, and not only was it very difficult to get it exactly peaked on the signal (you have to anticipate which way the dish is going to slightly shift as you tighten the bolts), but it also gets bleed-over from SES-3 on one channel - strangely, I can lock the encrypted Fedex channels on 12182V, but nothing else from SES-3.

Bottom line is that a 90cm dish is usually fine for full power / full xponder feeds - NBC on SES-3, PBS on AMC-21, etc. - marginal for half-power feeds, and inadequate for anything less.

BTW, I have a solid lock for the Rogers Hometown Hockey feed currently on 11800v on AMC-15 with my 90cm dish.
The SQ number keeps jumping between 70-85, average around 75.
It is a wide-bandwidth (SR=30K) feed, but satsignature shows it's not the strongest signal there:
https://satsignature.com/plot/america/amc-15-amc-18
See if you can lock it with your 90cm dish.

Capt,

thanks for the detailed response. Unfortunately "The Private don't know" on some of it.  Most of the AMC1/SES 3 feeds are SI 98 and SQ 98 although 11794/v/48000 is 49/10.

I just did a blind scan on G17. The ABC stuff is mostly 98/98.
12141/v/2549 is 98/70
12088/h/13235 98/75, and
12066/h/611 is 98/65

Also my dish is motorized. It was a real pain getting it set right but I've been real pleased with it but now there are 3000 channels and not much to watch! In all honesty some of my feeds are much better quality than the ones on the pay satellite.

Just to make sure when I see some thing like "the game is on

11754
7500"

the 11754 is the freq and the 7500 is the sr?

I think I've figured out how to find out what the signal strength is even though I'm not getting a signal. The next time I fail to find a feed I'll look in the TP menu and see what it says.

Thanks for the help

Yes, 11754V is the frequency, and 7500 is the SR.

The WHL Canada / Russia Series just popped up on G17 at 12105V / 7500 with a very strong signal. 2 channels.

Can anyone confirm this? I don't see anything.  No problem with the signal at 3760 on this satellite.

Sorry guys.  Looks like tonight was one of those rare nights where the out of market (Chicago) broadcast was handled by NBCSports Net.  WGN was only viewable locally in Chi.  Bad outcome anyway.
