I'm not that far away from it either.

It looks like PA plays home to "Hockeyville USA" for a second time in two years:  http://www.wpxi.com/sports/rostraver-ice-garden-wins-kraft-hockeyville-contest/515243538

Yessir, that's where I started playing as a kid, that's where I referee as an adult.  I live about 4 minutes from there!

Pens will host the Blues here on 9/24.

The Hockeyville USA game is today, Pens vs. Blues at 8pm on NBCSN.

Unfortunately our home rink "wasn't equipped" to host the game, so it was moved to the Pens practice facility about 45 minutes north.

The Pens are practicing at our rink at 11am, I doubt there will be a sat truck there.

The game backhaul should be on SES-3 ku.

I wonder what qualifies as 'equipped'?
Around here, they would be missing out on the stench of 30 years worth of sweat in locker rooms that never get thoroughly cleaned,
as they bond getting ready. Who couldn't get fired up for hockey in that kind of environment?

Not equipped - The boards don't have any give, there is concrete behind most of them, so the risk of injury was too great.  Plus, the benches are too short for 20 players, backup goalie, and coaches to fit comfortably.  There was no area for the medical/training staff to set up out of the public view in the event there was an injury.  And a bunch of little things, all of which led them to their decision.

They did a lot of upgrades at the rink, such as new LED lighting, new pipes under the ice sheet, things like that.  The locker rooms got a fresh coat of paint and new flooring, so that stench is now masked by paint fumes.

Yes, but weaker than SNF;  58% SQ for hockey vs 72% SQ for SNF.
Using a 1 or 1.2m (can't remember) fiberglass dish with an ortho feed and Norsat Ku LNBs.

Thanks Captain. I had SNF at 60 and nothing on the hockey game.

Thanks Hocketnut! A little sad that the game was moved but it's exciting to see our community with a national audience!

Some really nice stories about the arena and the people.  Good interview with the kids that play there and pretty neat to see video from the practice held there.

Really good for youth hockey!  A good thing that Kraft is doing.

That's what it's all about, the kids.  Kraft and the Penguins really involved the youth in the festivities leading up to the practice and the game.  It was definitely something this old barn needed to move forward.
