Can anybody tell me what is happening when I am doing a blind scan and get a failed scan? It will bring up SR and Freq and then say failed. So is there a signal there and it's too weak or is it something I can't decode? Just trying to understand blind scanning a little bit better. Thanks, Matt

I can comment on my 8000HD Local. Yes one cause can be a weak signal in which the freq/SR are discovered but the info in the stream can't be interpreted. Other causes would be a data signal such as HughesNet or other data carriers. Also if you set to blind scan FTA only you will get the same result on any encrypted signals and vice versa. Same goes for blind scanning tv channel only... all radio only signals will show failed and vice versa.

If I suspect the failed freq/SR is a valid program which "should" have scanned in and is due to weak signal I will try to do a manual scan on that freq/SR... after peaking the dish of course. This is most helpful on 16 and 32 APSK signals.

Not to go off on a tangent but with my system I have noticed very little change in dish position and skew can have great affect for the 16 and 32APSK signals... but after any changes it takes a few moments longer for AFC(auto freq control) to lock signal than on wider signals.

Hope this helps
Bill

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
