Well merkin , i have'nt been home all week. im having a hard time with this telnet deal. First off , I dont have the enternet where i live . My 3g junk net 10 phone will not give me a wifi conection to my laptop! So i took it to town to go on the industrial networking web site and i looked for a software download and i didnt see a button to click on for the download. I only had about 10 minutes to look on that site and had to get home . Im lost and need a step by step on how to set up for port 80. I did have someone a few weeks ago starting to help me on this , but he left me in the DUST ! Also i see in VLC media player (in add interface) it shows a telnet button to click on. I click on it and nothing at all happens? I by far dont know how to run a computer very well but i do learn fast. NEED HELP! Thanx!

Hey JJ how can we get you some basic tools to play with? Could the G3 connect use say an antenna to stabilize the download???
If it would help i could burn a disk and send it via pony express or post office.
dont give up i know you wont.

we could use telnet commands to say tune :
ch up/down
new vct

only reason were looking for telnet/ftp commands is there does not appear to have a web browser in the 6050 or the software version we have no web, Everything i have read has said it was a feature for future use and may have not been implemented at the version we have.

someone please help if you have knowledge specific for 6050

you shouldn't need any extra tools.

sorry if i gave the impression that you can remote control with telnet.  you cant.  telnet is just used to check if a port is open.  of course, why not just open the web browser and put the ip ethernet (not GigE) address that you configured in the menu.  you will need to statically set an ip address on your computer also, but make sure the ip addresses are in the same subnet.

whats the model of your cell phone and who is your cell service provider?
your phone might have hotspot capabilities.

@Mr_Uplink seemed to have access to a few dsr6050..thats is who i would ask these questions.

did either of you try a factory reset?

Merkin , my cell is a $25 1000 minite a month net 10 (3g) LG306G with no mobile hotspot that i can see anywhere in any menu. Yes my 6050 has been fully reset. Still need a step by step on setting up a static ip . So your saying i need to do this on the 10/100 port of the 6050? My VLC is on the gig-e port. So i need 2 computers to do this?

just for testing purposes remove the ethernet cable from the Gig-E port and plug the ethernet cable into the 10/100 port.
then configure the 10/100 port with the exact same ipaddress/subnet/gateway as the Gig-E port.
then open up a web browser and type the ip address into the web browser.

if the webserver is active you will be prompted for a username and password.
for my dsr6000 the username is: Keystone and the password is: KeystoneUser

forget about vlc and gig-e. we are just testing the webserver.

1. set up static ip on your computer
ip address: 192.168.0.100
subnet address: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1
(just leave dns entries blank)

2. set up static ip on the dsr6050 for the 10/100 port
ip address: 192.168.000.200
subnet address: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.000.001

3.  connect ethernet cable from 10/100 port on dsr6050 to your computer

4.  open cmd.exe on your computer and type: ping 192.168.0.200 (make sure you get a reply before the next step)

5.  open your internet browser on you computer and type: 192.168.0.200 in the address bar and press enter.

your browser will either prompt for login to the dsr6050 web server or tell you it cant be reached.

Ok thanx, so if i change the Ip subnet ,gateway stuff (numbers) in the computer , do i have to change them back to get my vlc going again? Or is this just another browser? Yes this is my first rodeo with this type of stuff.

Hey DC2!

I see I'm late to the party.............  I was doing a little DC2 tracking of my own this evening.  [biggrin]

Yes, you will either have to change all your computer settings as well as the physical connections between your PC and the DSR every time you want to make changes in the web server or watch channels via the GIG-E port.  The unit was designed to operate on two separate networks at the same time (one for video, and one for management).  For the average guy doing this as a hobby, it's much easier to just set your channels via the front panel.  The other option is using multiple network cards and setting up routing within your PC, but that requires extra hardware and some extensive knowledge of setting up routes within your IP stack.  Some Moto receivers don't play well when setting up the same IP on the management and GIG-E interfaces.  Just a heads up...............

Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find.
