Ive been told that this models audio firmware was not downloaded? The right & left primary and secondary audio green plugs on the rear of the unit are non-op! I was told by a few members that a Qam modulator will get me audio. If i purchase a motorola Sem-v8 it is suppose to get me audio. I was told that you have to set-up the sem-v8 on the enternet. Do you have to set-up the sem-v8 on the web everytime you change Transponder's on the Dsr 6050 or do you only have to reset-up the sem-v8 without having to be on the web??? Is there a Qam modulator that dos'nt require the web to set-up? I dont have enternet..... My firmware on the 6050 is 1C4.30. I appreciate any help on this. Thank's!

Look over page 30 in the manual for this unit. Notice where it says the analog audio is muted but can be found via the ASI stream. Perhaps an ASI is the easy way to go. Some of us got such cards a few years back and used them. I did at that time.

You do not connect to the internet. The cat. 5 or 6 cable goes from the 6050 to the sem-v8. A serial 9 pin connector on the front of the sem-v8 is used to connect a PC to it. Then you can program the sem-v8. Got to run. I need to set up the dish to NASA for the eclipse.

I still have a week to test this 6050 before i can't get my money back. Besides the audio problem , this unit is in very good condition, and eveything else is working great. I did get a very good deal on it. Thay made a big mistake on the price and i made them stick to the advertised price of 199.99 . Now there 399.97.

Hey DC2,

The easiest way to view HD (with sound) content from your 6050 is by connecting the GIG-E ethernet of the unit directly to your laptop and using VLC to view the multicast stream.  It's a very easy setup and once you do it once, you won't have to make any changes when you re-configure the transponder settings of the DSR.  If your laptop supports HDMI, you can then connect it directly to your TV to watch in comfort.  You can also use an ASI PC card or connect to a Motorola SEM V8, although using a SEM requires a bit of re-configuration every time you change transponders due to the MPEG program numbers being different.  It would be a giant PITA for feed hunting!

Let me know if you want a walkthrough for viewing multicast content on your laptop.  It's pretty simple overall. [smile]

Ok, ive been told somewhere that the file's dont support the GIG-E ethernet port on the 6050 as of yet! Is this true? My laptop is a toshiba satellite c875 and has a HD port out. I dont like the sound of the giant PITA deal with the SEM-v8. I do like the sound of the GIG-E ethernet port hook-up if it do's work with my firmware? I need to be able to surf Tp's so i can share the FP mode find! It would be much appreciated if you school me , step-by-step. I learn fast! Thanx so much Mr_Uplink! O:-) P.S. My firmware is 1C4.30

VLC Media Player software is free if you have a connection to the internet. This hobby gets a lot harder to do without a good internet connection. With such installed one can then play some video/audio stream formats.

The latest Windows version is about a 29.5MB file download. Perhaps one could just get a copy via snail mail from a friend and a cd dish or memory stick also.

I too have wondered if using the GIG-E port which several of the Motorola commercial receivers do have may be the easy way to go with these commercial receivers.

My first thought of "jack in the box" was an electronic connection to a box. But free internet should work too. Just keep the cheese burger juices out of the lap top.

I dug around here and found one of my two DEVO Master FD ASI pci cards and found their software down load page on my fast internet source. Benn a couple years back when I used these cards with Motorola commercial receivers.

Appears my ASI card installed and so did the software. Now I wonder where I put that second ASI DEVO card?

Above is a link back to when a few of us got interested in using a ASI card. Been a couple of years ago I see.
That was 5 years ago, where does the time go? I found at that time two ASI cards on E Bay for about $70 each but they both worked well.

I would not worry about returning it! There are many here the will be more than willing to take it off your hands for $200 plus shipping. I am one of them. So keep on playing with it and if you finally give up, the offer will stand.
