No, i only found i had to reset it if i was switching between channels that had the same VCT.  I've only had to reset it twice thus far.

I second what Iboston says...I have only had to reset it twice. Probably should have only once the other may have been user error. Glad you got it working!

I should add, that i have only had to reset my 4402x.  I have never had to reset my 4410.  With the 4410, use the MPEG stream channel selection rather than VCT, as it is much quicker to find channels and don't need to know the VCT and channel #'s.

The positive on the 4402x, it boots a LOT faster.   I hooked up an IR power plug so i can turn on my DSR's without leaving the couch.  I have my DSR 4402x set to POP.  I can turn on the unit, and it will pull in the channel within about 10-15 seconds, as with the DSR 4410, it can take about a minute.

Just a word on VCT's with the DSR 4410.. If you want to clean out old non existing VCTs you do a reset. If you want to find out what a new muxes VCT # is, you do a reset. Other than this like Iboston said, you should never have to do a reset on the 4410. Also on the HBO muxes it is required to use the VCT # to get all 16 channels on both of the muxes, or you will only get 8 channels per each mux with MPEG SELECT. Also 3 of the Discovery muxes require the VCT # to get a extra channel or two. On the Showtime muxes if you enter the VCT you will get both of there muxes on the same satellite joined together as one mux. On all the rest of the muxes out there you can use mpeg select with the program channel #'s with out losing any extra channel's. Keep on Tracking!!!

I locked many straight dvb signals...ie lesea, the PR mux, religious channels etc. only would play the mpeg 2 ones.

I locked most DCII signals and played the fta ones. The religous mux on c-g23   I watched all the channels there. I locked and watched the fp channel on the mux on Eutel 117 I think. locked others but nothing else had video zk or fp.

I unplugged my 4402x and took the cover off. Battery measured 3.01 v.  Is there a need to replace it? If so do I do it while it is plugged in to keep the power on  ? Where is the best place to order a battery and what kind/model do I need? Thanks!

Edit: As long as it is plugged in it technically doesnt need the battery correct? So as long as it is plugged in I can safely remove and replace the battery...correct? No soldering or anything needed just snap in and out...right?

Thanks guys!

Several of us have stated that the 4500 units should be avoided. If you choice to buy one--well good luck with that. They made several different Motorola receivers over the years and indeed a few of them are better for the sat surfing needs of hobby folks. Not every one here has used them so not every one has an opinion about using them. One last time--avoid putting any money into a 4500 model unit. Every one of the many different Motorola commercial models all have a learning curve. They were not designed for channel surfing but rather in real life got setup for a given tp and likely were left tuned there for perhaps more than a year before it ever was retuned to a different channel. Down load the manual and read through the many pages or search through the other input on this forum.

http://rfdtvtoolkit.com/familynet/affiliates/technical/    Read the section about used equipment alert setup and the possible problems one might get with some units.

Sat Guys website has the 4500X manual there that can be down loaded and saved for future reference. Hair Club For Men may be able to help if one does buy a used Motorola DSR 4500X unit.

I have a 4402x and a 4410  Both of them work great and to me are easy to use.  The 4410 allows you to find DCII channels without knowing the specs.  But, all the FTA channels have the correct specs published or can be found easily on this forum.  DC2Tracker said he would be selling his unit soon.

It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
