There is a new update on the site for the "new" receiver; dated 4-25-2013.  The receiver looks to be "powerview" with a slot for the card.  Still talking about summer launch.  Interesting site to watch.  In the last info, the price dropped to $888.00, so this is still out of my budget.  Jess

I took a look at the site and found that the picture of the rack mount receiver has been replaced by a set top box.  Still plans for Summer roll out.  Jess

Site says Galaxy 17 will be used for distribution. That satellite is pretty full (completely full on the c-band side?) and I do not see hardly any of the networks listed on the website already on that sat.

Site says:
Quote:
Satellites from 135 west, AMC 10 to 91 west, Galaxy 17 will be used for subscription programming.

But I'm not holding my breath waiting for this either. I'll believe it when I see it.

There was a program on satellite-nation radio show about this scam!

There is a link for it over at Fridge FTA and Satellite Guys to the radio program which exposes the receiver and hits on the 4k part also.
Well worth the listen in on to get the scoop on it.

I have received a few calls asking about a so called New Receiver and C-Band Programming being promoted by Glen.  I tell them to not believe it and to check around with other sources to learn about the practices that this individual has done.

This link was recently provided to me from a fellow forum member.  It is a link to one of Satellite Guys Radio Shows and the discussion pertains to Glen and his products and practices and anyone considering doing business with this individual, may want to consider listening to it and to do your homework first before doing any business with him.  This discussion about Glen starts at around 12 minutes in and continues to the 30 minute mark.

Thanks to Scott at Satellite Guys for this discussion.

Good advise especially for the new comers that don't really know Glen's scams. I was about to send my 4DTV to him a few years ago for re-mapping and decided not to after seeing all the complaints about not getting them back for months.

the nightmare began when I sent my 4DTV receiver in to get a new battery & the most expensive maps..I was told I needed to send a Postal Money order because Paypal was to slow and they needed the money before starting..6 weeks later I was still waiting..in the 9th week I got the receiver back but NO MAPS..nothing!!!Sent unit back..they said the repair was $90 so I sent a Postal Money order as directed by Glen...it got there last Thursday (or before)..when I inquired about when they would ship the unit they said that the Money Order was deposited in the bank but would take 3 to 5 days to clear...this is when I blew up.."Money Orders are the same as cash"..that was like talking to a brick wall...it is 1 week since they got the money order but I have heard NOTHING...this whole MESS has been going on for just over 3 months...I do NOT recommend them...wish I had never sent the receiver in...Talked (email) with Rick Caylor so he now knows what is happening...By-the-way..Rick is the very best...honest, intelligent and one of the few left in the business I would highly recommend!!!!!  I am now wondering if I will ever see the 4DTV receiver again...I have spent (with all shipping & costs) over $450.00 & have NOTHING to show for it....[frown]

I take it at this late date and time that this situation has been long ago cleared up and there is no problem with Glenn.  I have a 920 that's been long out of use and I'm seriously considering having the unit updated & new batteries installed in the VC & receiver.
Please advise.
Thanks

my suggestion would be to learn how to solder, and program the Maps yourself. Or find someone else other than the subject, preferably locally  to do the work for you. Or just don't bother with it and enjoy what ya can get with your favorite DVB receiver.

Soldering is not a problem after nearly 40+ years in 2-way radio, so I'd like to believe I'm a bit beyond that hopefully.  I'm just so busy fixing other people's radio equipment that I was looking to take the lazy way out. Listening to the above link Rick posed 8/13 interesting! Good Grief.

But you know after going backwards in this thread it sure sounds to me like I had better hold off on this idea and like you say, do it myself.  I'm not crazy about having to learn about the mapping situation, sounds like a pain.

It was my understanding years ago the receiver would automatically update the maps when left on a particular bird along with the subscription keys.  I guess I'm just having buyers remorse (Some 10 years later) I bought this from a gentleman who decided to get his programming off the internet... ok.
So now it's mine!  But I had a career that kept me out of the country for a long time, so I never actually got to use the 920.   Here I am 2014 and it looks like the receiver is dang near ready for the junk pile.

Can I let this receiver sit on a particular bird tonight and possibly down load some update into the thing or is so far removed from service I have no choice but to remap it ???

Thanks for any info.
I don't even know what Bird to Aim this thing at, please advise.

I don't know the answer to all your questions (never had one...) except for I think I have heard ya do not wanna aim it at the ANIK birds that carry Starchoice. If ya really wanna put it to use, I think your best bet is get familiar with the hardware involved (BDM interface??) and the software used to program your own custom Maps.

Glen is back to his old tricks!

You guys will never guess what he is selling now? All the forums are buzzing about a dealer in Chicago selling a hacked receiver for c band. If you go to the topix.com board and search under his name, lo-and-behold, there is a discussion about him!

I was beginning to wonder what ever became of him since I haven't heard anything out of him in quite some time. Thought maybe he had finally went to jail or perhaps voluntarily admitted himself into a mental institution or something, or that maybe someone had him committed to one.
