yeah, one needs to know which freq plan their local cable system uses.

I can make different freq lists for ATSC and QAM pretty easy. I'm still in the field though for another few weeks so remind me in June if I forget.

My tuner supports QAM 64,128, and 256. I don't have cable TV but have cable internet. So I'll try and scan it when I get back but don't expect to find anything.

UDL, a minor issue for when  u get back
Upon tune, unable to parse PIDs for CHCH in Hamilton. Seems to complain about CRC errors. So unable to select any PIDs to view, save, etc. I'm sure it's probably something funky they have in their stream but thought you'd wanna see it. I saved a short raw .ts from it if ya wanna check it out.

I see similar CRC errors when using dvbstream and stream it to TsReader for analysis, and play it via VLC, but it plays fine.
http://pastebin.com/Uv5TxHsL

No sign of TEI or Continuity errors when looking at it in TsReader.

Is your signal bad ?

search for "CRC mismatch:" in dvbtune.cpp, right under it you;ll see return 0, change that to return 1 and it will ignore the fact the CRC is bad and attempt to parse the pid, no guarantee's it wont lock the application up though lol. If the CRC is bad there is probably a reason why.

The mismatch doesnt mean that the packet is bad nessisarily, just that the CRC I calculated is not the same as the last 4 bytes the provider told me was the CRC. Maybe they calculated the CRC wrong, unlikely but hey wierder things have happened. No harm in giving it a try.

btw Im working on getting that PSIP parsing (TVCT table) added for ATSC, got the base functionality down now just tweaking it and running it through some paces before I push it to bitbucket. Should be good to go tomorrow.

thanks...
naw must be something more to do to work around it? did seem to ignore it though, only one try with CRC error (was consistently 4 prior). Signal quality is plenty good.
If it was less than 15 dB SNR I'd be suspicious of the signal.
Plays fine via dvbstream -> TsReader ->VLC

Did you disable the CRC checking? does it parse correctly? Does dvbsnoop parse the pids correctly? it will parse even if the CRC is wrong

Yes, No, and Yes....
I'll play around with it some more tomorrow. The signal faded to marginal since 10 PM.
I just checked the weather radar and it's raining pretty good in the Hamilton area now, making a beeline for here. VHF is funny when it's raining.

Its sure can be, it can either hinder the signal or in some cases bounce off it and improve the signal.

PSIP(TVCT) is now implemented, Im only pulling the channel major/minor number and name and any descriptors, if there is another field you think is important let me know and I'll add it. DGII/ATSC should be a little more reliable now, added table_id filtering into demux_packet() you dont see the need for it very often in DVB but it does come up

OK, pulled the updates from the other night, PSIP parse looks good so far..
dvbtune.cpp in the area of CRC mismatch looks a little different
I have this code, does this look right?

        qDebug() << "CRC mismatch: " << hex << crc_buffer << ":" << hex << crc_calc;
        return 0;

still doesn't parse the TP of this flakey chch from hamilton, but it does parse the PSIP correctly
dvbsnoop is able to parse the PIDs, but feel strange about the PIDs in reference to what I normally see for video/audio PIDs with ATSC.
Will check it in tsreader next.

comment the return 0 out and try to parse it again.

//  return 0;

Would I be able to get a few hundred mb dump of the entire mux? tune it and then use my demux app to save the entire stream. zip it and use a file dump site like filedump.net or one of the many others.

ok first thing I notice is that this program's PMT is on PID 0x10, the NIT pid. The CRC does appear to be good though, I'll have to double check later.

I'll put something up later that will allow PMT on pid 0x10, right now I assume that 0x10 is always the NIT. But its not hard to check the table_id as well.

cool..thx..

BTW, in case ur still thinking of other fields to try and parse from the PSIP,
in TVCT, sometimes you'll see other info like extended channel name,
ETT channel name, and sometimes some text after the TSID.
Might be useful to help identify stations received from far away during tropo events,
that ur not as familiar with. ie sometimes they'll put their address in there, etc.

here's a few examples from around here to give ya an idea what I mean.
