I received mine yesterday, however I've been too busy to work on it since we're ripping out our old furnace and installing a new furnace, plus we've had several thunderstorms passing through the area which have knocked out telephone and internet (posting via a hotspot) and cell service is in/out, and I didn't want to risk plugging in a new receiver during a storm.  But I'll probably get to it later today.   In the meantime, re the following ?

Thanks.. I was initially confused because the little one page manual showed a terrestrial input, which I assume must have been referring to a DVB-T input that isn't installed on this US version.
So I assume this means that that bottom port can be configured as either a 2nd input or a passthru?  If so, that's nice to have that as an option..... as long as my aging brain can remember how I've configured it. [smile]
I also assume that there are internal connections for adding a SATA hard drive, and I assume that the hard drive is best formatted by the Octagon? Is there an online manual that describes the hard drive installation?
Anyway, I can't wait until the furnace installers are out of here and the rain stops and phone/internet is fixed, so I can start playing with this thing.

Well, I plugged in the Octagon. Got a couple things figured out, but got hung up on setting up my diseqC-1.1 switch.  Unless I missed something, it seems like it will only handle a 4 port switch, not an 8 port switch.  I can deal with that if I use the 2nd tuner instead of passthru, but I'm wondering if that other firmware might do diseqC-1.1 switches?  Or if there was some menu item I missed?
Also, I assume there must be a way to define a new satellite? Didn't see one, but I didn't really look very hard. Basically need to define Hor-C,Ver-C,Hor-K,Ver-K for each sat with my Bullseye, so I'm hoping that there isn't any limit to the number of sats.
Sorry for asking questions before experimenting more, but I sort of got stuck on the diseqC-1.1 before I could experiment more.

Change it to Diseqc 1.2 wejones.Even 1.1 gives 16 inputs under Diseqc 1.1 commands.

OK, making some progress.
Eventually found the advanced page of the setup shown in voomvoom's image, and I set up the Gal 13 sat for diseqC-1.1 and port 2, which is C-band vertical on my switch.
At first I wasn't getting any indication of signal, but then I remembered that I had been experimenting with running my coaxes through a 22KHz switch, hoping to switch between my 8 port switch and another LNBF, but apparently the 22KHz interfers with my diseqC-1.1 switch.
Once I took the 22KHz switch out of the circuit, I got a lock, and stored the NASA channels.  Tuned in the UHD channel which displays perfectly.  I hadn't tuned that in for quite a while, and was hoping that they might be doing some live video on the UHD channel, but it looks like they are still running a loop of videos, although so far it's video I hadn't seen before.
Anyway, thanks for the help with the diseqC-1.1.

I'm still wondering whether I can create additional "satellites" so that I can store g13-c-v , g13-c-h, g13-k-v, g13-k-h, or do I have to go into setup and change the diseqC settings each time I want to change band or polarity? Seems like there must be a way to add new sats, but I only see the ability to select from their list.

Also, I went into the setup menu where I could initialize the hard drive I put into the receiver.  I hit the initialize button, and it said something like this could take a long time, but I could watch TV while it was initializing. I said OK, and it went through a progress bar showing a few steps in initialization such as deleting partitions, etc, then after about 10 or 15 sec it hit 100% and the hard drive initialization screen went away, no indication of whether it was sucessful or not, so I went back into that menu and did a file system check.  Same thing, gave me a warning that it could take a long time, and it went through the progress bar and the menu went away.   I then decided to just try it on the NASA SD channel, and got an "X" in the upper left, apparently meaning that I couldn't record.  There didn't seem to be any menu item where I could see if the file system was set up, or see what system it had put it in.  There was an option to change from ext3 to ext4, so I tried that, with similar results, ie hit record button and "X", nothing happened.

One strange thing though.  After doing all of the above, I went back to watching local TV on my Sony TV, and while in the input list, I noticed that now the Octagon was listed twice, once on the HDMI4 input I was actually using, but another octagon tuner-1 symbol was listed, and it showed the same thing as the other one.  I had set up the Octagon's 2nd port to be "same as first port" or something like that, thinking that that would set it up as a passthru, so perhaps if I had set it up as a separate tuner, I could have selected between the two Octagon tuners on my Sony TV????

Thanks.

have to setup recording location in E2 Ssetup menu...recording paths. Then it will record...or should. Set time shift there as well.

? What is "E2 Setup" menu?  I looked all over the regular setup menu, but couldn't find recording paths. Is the "E2" menu something different?

Maybe I should pull out the hard drive and format it in my RPi.

It means to press menu on remote....select setup. and it should have a listing for recording paths or it may be in with the format hard drive area.
If you dont direct the "box" as to where you want it to record...... it will give an error. Think of it as saving a file on a computer...have to tell it where it is to be saved or it wont save it.[smile]

should have 3 options to set:
timer recording
instant recording
timeshift recordings

you must designate where each one will record to

Wejones, to build/taylor your satellite/channel list, you will need an editor like Dreamset or DreamboxEdit
Explained partly in another thread to this question:

Also in Windows, you can look inside as to what makes it tick?
If you are on a network?
click on start button and enter this in the Search box:

\\sf4008\root\

Things can be changed/added to
USE
at your own RISK....!!!!!!

wejones, go to
Setup
Recordings & Timeshift
Recording settings
and change - Default movie location
probably = /media/hdd/movie/
or something like that?
Also look over the rest of Setup page and see if you need to change anything else for your needs

Just to be clear, I'm just using the firmware that came with the receiver, while people are talking about Enigma-2 and E2.  I thought the Octagon had OpenATV firmware, or is that the same thing?
But anyway, If I hit SETUP, there is no Recordings & Timeshift option.
The entire list is:
Video, Audio, Usage&GUI, EPG, Service Searching, Common interface, Parental control, Software management, and System. I've looked in most of those, and don't find anything related to formatting or designating where recordings should go.
Is it possible that I needed to load one of the plugins to get the extra menu items?

Other than that, I'm thinking that I may have to format it in my RPi before it can record.
When I tried to initialize the hard disk, it DID recognize the hard drive, and detected the capacity, but apparently wasn't able to format it.  It's a rather old hard drive with windows NTFS format. I assumed that the Octagon could reformat in one of the Linux formats, but maybe not, and maybe I don't get those menu items until it is formatted.

Openatv is E2.

It is there somewhere..hopefully someone will post exactly where.
No need to further format or remove HDD...the issue is setting up the recording path.

It occurred to me that maybe I needed to reboot after initializing the hard disk. After doing that, I hit information, and it showed my hard drive, and indicated that it was mounted on /media/hdd.  So that makes it seem like the initialization was sucessful, although it still doesn't confirm what file system it's using.  I looked again for the missing menu items, but still don't see them.
Can I connect to the Octagon via putty?  If so what user/pass can be used?
Actually, it just occurred to me that I haven't connected this to my LAN or internet yet.  Perhaps it needs to do some updates before it has those menu items?\

Never mind re the user/pass...  I got in via sf4008/root.  I think that was mentioned above.

EDIT:
I just ran a mount command, and it replied:
/dev/sda1 on /media/hdd type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)

So that sounds like the initialization worked, and the switch to ext4 also worked, and it's mounted.
So apparently it's not because of the drive not being initialized.

I guess I'll just keep searching through the menu items.  While all this is happening, I have NASA UHD going, which is nice.
