What channel are you on when you see ZK mode?  I don't see anything at this time with ZK.
C-Span is analog, so it doesn't tell you anything about the maps.

The real test for your receivers is to view channels that are in FP mode.

There is an FP channel on Galaxy 17.
3960 H 29270 Service Number 4.
You might try going to Galaxy 17 (G7).
I don't know what maps you have in your 922.
But go to Channel 23 and channel up and see if you find anything.

One of the receivers has neither G7 or S3, but will get the C-SPAN channel on C3.  It has a hard time locking DC channels so I can't tell if there's any map at all in it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other receiver has G7 but not S3.  It might well be my dish alignment but it doesn't get anything on G7 (not a hint of channel 4 nor 23).  However it does detect DC channels back on C3.

I think maybe proof positive that it does not have a map, though, is that as you scroll thru the channels on C3 the unit will report either "Cannot find channel. Continuing to search..." when there's nothing there (no DC light) or "This channel is not available." when the DC light is lit, as with channel C3-610 for example.

I think 610 is the Velocity channel, but the 922 does not know the name of the channel even though it has pretty clearly found and locked it.  This is conclusive then, is it not, that the receiver has no map???

Is there any way to add a map to this second receiver, or is it essentially a "dead" unit?

Thanks everyone for their help!

Your receiver is receiving digital channels on C3.  The unavailable message on some channels is normal on my 922's when the channel is not authorized.  If the channel were to go to fixed mode or authorized to all receivers, you would get video. All of the numbered channels you have in your receiver are mapped.  So if you have a numbered channel it is mapped.  The channels that are not mapped are the missing numbers.  These receivers can be remapped,  but with this receiver being totally obsolete in the near future, it would be a waste of time, unless all you want is a dish mover with more satellite positions.

Options 6, 4, 4 will show you all the available satellites that are mapped in your receiver.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
