Got to talk to Barry again last night.  Still getting better.  Yesterday, he was able to sit up in a chair for a couple of hours and was also able to walk about 50'.  This is all good, as being upright can help to get the stomach muscles working again.  He still has the feed tube going in through his nose and down the throat and into his stomach and hopefully with the body movement, they can get some food into him and his stomach can handle it and then soon be able to remove the feed tube, as that tube is irritating and causes the throat to be sore and makes it hard to talk.

His spirit is still good and he again wished to thank everyone for caring.

I'm glad to hear he is feeling better!

If you talk to him again find out if his colon is working yet. (you know, is he pooping ok?) They told me for weeks that my colon was in shock, because of the surgery, when in fact the surgeon had sewed it shut so it would never work.
In short, if his colon hasn't proven to be working by now, he needs to see a different surgeon, and probably a different hospital.

ksmike,

Barry has got an Ostomy bag now, so while things will be a bit different, most people can have a perfectly normal life and feel a lot better than before the surgery.  You can read more about how the Ostomy works here:  http://www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/health-topics/digestive-diseases/ostomy-surgery-bowel/Pages/ez.aspx

I used to not know anything about this or colostomy's, but I learned pretty fast back in May of 2009 when I had to get one.  I was lucky enough to be able to heal and have it removed 3 months later.  But there are a lot of mental things that you have to deal with and over come.  A good sense of humor helps a lot, as does a loving family and good friends.

I know this ain't Satellite Stuff, but still a good life lesson and a chance to learn about things that can effect us and at least give someone a chance to get back to Satellite Stuff.  [smile]

I am with Mike. I have known two people to get that surgery at mission hospital, and both had to be transported Greenville Hospital System to get repaired again and wound up fine. I have nothing to do with GHS,but do to a similar problem that will have to dealt with soon I have researched and either GHS or St. Francis will be my choice.Barry I hope you get well soon.

Hey Comptech and Mike,

For Barry's sake, I sure hope his doctors did not do that to him.  Hate to hear that it happened to you Mike and to your friends Comptech.

Well guys and gals I finally have some energy to get on here and say hello and thank you one and all for your prayers. The road to complete recovery will be long but I'm eating a little food and walking So we're on the way! Continue to pray!

I talked to his wife yesterday.  Barry was taking a snooze!  He walked more and had some more tubes removed and is eating some soft foods and his digestion system is awake and Working!  All good signs and everytime I have talked to him, he is just so Positive and I know he really appreciates all of his friends here.

Barry is still fighting with his wife by his side.  His spirits are still good and he is fighting to get better.  He had a bad night 2 nights ago and they had to put the various tubes back in as his stomach has still not woke up and was not digesting the food he had been able to intake.  He is still able to sit up and is walking a bit further each day.  50', then 110' and hopefully 200' today.  He again wished to say Hey and Thank you all for your support and prayers and to please continue praying.
