Been awhile since I have had my 8100 in action. At this time it is still out of commision! The box has become very slow and will not even recognize a usb hd to record.Hope it is not toast!!! I use to have a loader on the puter but I no longer have.

Much appreciated if someone can post a loader and also the best sw that will not limit to 32 sats.Would be a shame to totally retire this box. Thanks for any help in saving this cool classic........

I have this, don't know if was the latest. I only have the 2025A FW, that's the one you referring with the sat limitation.

Ok sounds good with the loader beano. Not sure if the sw was compatible between the 8000 and the 8100???? Been so long since I have played with this box I dont recall...The one thing I do recall is how awesome the tuner was which makes me want to get it going again for the really weak feeds.

The fan still works so I can only assume it is not toast at this point but it sure does respond very slowly?

Thanks beano.

Does 2025A limit the sats to 32 MX?

I'm pretty sure that the 2025A does not limit you to 32 sats, but I think it forces you to rename sats rather than create new sats, and there was something that made this process less than smooth, to the extent that I almost preferred the 32 sat limit in the earlier versions.  With the earlier versions, you could quickly change which sats made up your 32 from a big list, and I think it allowed you to create sats easier.  With the 2025A, there was a fairly complete sat list, but a few sats were missing, and it was a bit inconvenient to add them by renaming unused sats.
But it's been a few years since I've used my 8100, so my memory is a bit foggy.

I don't know hockey, it has a lot of sats in the list from Europe and North America, but i never add any new sat position, it was only used to watch the HD feeds that the pansat3500 was able to catch. When I acquired the 8100 it had a third party fw on it, it was good since i was able to scan many tp's/channels without exit from sat menu (forced by the stb), and with this 2025A you can only scan one tp at time (speaking of feeds posted in the forum where sometimes needs to change the FEC value to get a lock). I have never used the box as a dish mover,  i was planning that but my brother is using it for the digital OTA feature.

As with most electronic devices, open it and clean it. Check the fan. It may be covered with dust and worse if it was in a smokers environment. I Qtip the board, heatsinks and tops of ic's with rubbing alcohol. When mine get lazy I just go back to factory default and flip the main switch on the back. I don't put in other firmware but this clears the channel list. I also enter coordiantes found via the awesome folks here or 3500 and Crazy programs so I only need a single sat in each (I have one dedicated for C and one for Ku) moving with a 922.
Weak batteries in the remote also make it slow to change functions/enter coordinates.
Holding the remote vertical as opposed to pointing at the device may help.

No smokers environment here.I did pop the lid about a yr ago and blew all the dust out and gave it a good cleaning. Will redo and do a factory default and see if it speeds things up.Thanks for the tips and all the posts.

I'm running a coolie 8100 right now and cant say that it has a bunch of problems or is slow.  It is stable, timeclock works good and so does scheduled recordings onto an external HDD.  SD or HD both perform well on record and playback.

IT's using the 2.02.5A FW.  I have done some looking around and there is not a bunch of files or support for this receiver.  I think the 2.02.5A is probably the newest and/or best one going.

The box has become very slow - Hockeynut - my box did become very slow recently after using it hard (scanning, renaming, moving, deleting etc.).   It returned to normal after I rebooted the box.  Hope this helps remedy those problems u mentioned.

I've never noticed the VERY SLOW thing with my 8100, but as mentioned perhaps in another thread, the 8100 is very prone to over-heating problems.  So make sure that the fan is working.  If not, what I did once was to place a big 4x4 computer fan right on top of the receiver over the air vents, and that helped.

Also, it can't hurt to reload the firmware, and if you do, it's best to first wipe the memory clean with the special 16 byte firmware version.    Only problem is that once you use the clean firmware, you must use a regular serial connection rather than USB.
I THINK that the LOADER program is the same for 8000 and 8100, even though apparently the technique used with it is different.  However the firmware for the 8000 is definately different from that of the 8100.  I have several versions of 8100 firmware.  I think I posted a list of versions I have about a year or so ago.  But the 2025A is probably the best.  The 8000 also uses ver 2025A, but the file length is different.

wejones-I hope I never have to reload the FW on the coolie 8100.  I have invested quite a bit of time in getting the channels loaded and renamed that I consider that would be a catastrophic loss as I would have to do that all over again!  Ive been running it for 2 or maybe 3 months now I have to say it is doing quite well.  I think ive only had a freeze up maybe not even a handful of times.  compared to others I have worked with, that is pretty darn good.

Just keep it cool.  My first 8100 was a great receiver, until a lightning strike killed it with a loud SNAP.  My 2nd one apparently came with a defective fan, and it overheated.
I can't remember what was involved with restoring channels. There was no channel editor that I ever found/  I seem to remember that you could restore saved channel configurations, however I can't remember what was involved.  By the time I quit using it, I had it limited to one sat plus local OTA, since I was trying to narrow down the cause of the rebooting issue, and was re-loading the firmware often,  so I wasn't loading it up with multiple channels.
The first one, however, I had loaded up with all the sats, no problems.
Just make sure it's in a ventilated area and that the fan keeps running.

It is just most important to share the find.
