I can't seem to get my Elite to display a true standard definition 4:3 screen.  It always stretched an SD 4:3 signal to 16:9.  I've tried going into settings, display, and adjusting the screen format and display format, but nothing works.

Any suggestions?  I am using firmware 5402 (functions well otherwise).  Thanks!

Some networks force the 16X9 like Me TV and "this tv" so you cant change them. Movies network will switch between 16x9 and 4x3 so you might check and see if you get the 4x3 sometimes on Movies. Also COZI switches between them also so that another to check. If the network sends it that way we cant change it. Another way to get 4X3 is to hook up a old analog tv to the composite out.

Tracie, thanks for the response.  The signal I'm looking at is the WCIU Cubs feed (G19 4007 mhz, Vertical, 6111 SR).  I'm pretty sure they are sending this signal out in standard def, 4:3 format, or at least they used to.  And I can tell the Azbox is stretching to full screen.  Maybe if you get a chance, you can look at it on your end and see how it displays.

Most TVs will have an option to display in either 16x9 or 4x3 plus a couple other options to stretch, etc.
My TV is generally set to display at 16x9, and whenever I watch a SD 4x3, it looks to be stretched.  I can get it to look normal by switching to the 4x3 option on the TV.  The one I have problems with sometimes is when a SD signal is sent letterbox (I think that's what it's called), where it has black bars above/below, so it's a 16x9 inside a 4x3 screen.  My TV has something, I think it's called zoom, where it stretches both horizontally and vertically to fill the screen.  It actually works pretty well, but if I forget it's in that mode, it really confuses me the next time I go to watch a regular HD 16x9, as I only see the inside of the image.

Wejones, yes, my TV has the "zoom" options too.  I can zoom the TV display to fill the screen, have the side bars, etc.  In this case, I believe WCIU is sending an SD signal in 4:3 ratio, with the black bars on the side.  So I should be able to set the Azbox Elite to display the same signal format, with bars on the side, but it won't for some reason.  I believe this to be an issue with the Azbox receiver.

If I could get the Az to display the signal as it sent by the broadcaster, then I could adjust the TV settings if needed.  I just want to see the program in the same format it is being broadcast; 4:3, with side bars.  It's a pet peeve of mine to watch stretched signals that make everyone look as wide as they are tall.

Thanks again for the feedback.

It works fine on my Azbox Premium.
Here are my Display settings:

Video Output HDMI
Video Format NTSC
Video Resolution 720p
Screen Format 16:9
Display Format PillarBox
Display Format (Movie) PillarBox

If I change Display Format to Pan and Scan or Full Screen, then it fills the screen.

Thanks Photoman.  So you were seeing the game in 4:3 with bars on the side?

The game is over so I can't experiment any more.  I tried a bunch of different setting combinations and had no luck.  Wondering if firmware 5402 might also have something to do with it.

Yes, 4:3 with bars on the side.
I'm using firmware 0.9.5306.
