I've been reading rumors that a new firmware that fixes several issues is near being released/has been released for North America. Has anyone here come across an update?

I've seen firmware updates as recent as July 1st, but they've created more bugs than they've fixed, at least for me.

So far I have been very pleased with the update. It has fixed at the very least the Reelz Channel stutter. I have not encountered any problems with it but I will say that I haven't had it for very long so I may see the issues with time.

Thank you Mikhel, I do appreciate it. Has it worked out OK for you?

Yeah, it has worked out really good with me:

  • it fixed stuttering in the Reelz channel and in the high bitrate channels (CW, ABC);
  • it can now record the ABC HD in the Puerto Rico Mux at 99°W C (3845 H, SR 15030);
  • now records as TS directly or as PS (MPEG) as long as the channel is MPEG-2, if it is MPEG-4/h.s64 it will record as TS;
  • has a media player that supports playback of 1080p files (MPEG1, MPEG-2, VOB, MKV, AVI encoded with h.264/avc, mp4), though it doesn't support other tipes of DiVX/XViD/AVI files;
  • You can't change the background but it is alright with me anyways =);
    Joe included in that release an updated transponder list with info gathered in multiples scans by him and people both from this and his forum;
  • Recordings now are found in the Media Player section, click 1 to choose between Audio files (MP3), images (JPG), Video (MKV, AVI h.264, MP4, MPG), Recordings;
  • Old recordings are not compatible with the new format, so, make sure to convert all your previous DVR files to TS and transcode those to h.264 so they can be accessed by your OpenBox through the Media Player;
  • If you happen to have a S10, then the clock and timer works, the clock in the S9 seems to be unable to work properly because of other issues not directly related to the firmware;
  • It doesn't has the "green issue" for people using composite;
  • It now supports HDMI and Composite at the same time at 1080p_60;
  • there's still a slight issue with universal LNBs where you have to select universal (9750/10600) instead of just 10600 and 22 KHz ON, to scan properly, though i have not experienced anything bad at all.

There's more info that Joe and a few guys have found testing this official release but so far those are what come to mind.

TunaDude,

You are certainly welcome to buy the Openbox units from where ever you feel that you are going to be most comfortable with.

Yes, Joe from Fridge, sent me a copy of the software that he received and I have also gotten a new version of software from my supplier and am asking them to offer there own site with the software available for any one to download.

I have still not tested either version fully, so that is why I have not provided it our posted it here, even though Mikhel has decided to provide a link.

I went to "the fridge" and as always there is drama going on there... just my opinion!

Needless to say I was not able to find the latest version for the S9 so, can someone please point me to the right place?

One question for all S9 users, I have been having issues blind scaning with the S9 to the point where I have to do a power cycle in order to get anything scanned. If I used any of my other receivers (Pansat, Fortec, SA, etc) I get everything available on the bird so my S9 is at times... "blind"

Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Looking forward to the latest firmware version.

Thanks to all...

New     firmware installed on S10. But neither DMS international diseqc or 22 switch work. They worked with older firmware fine. Any new firmware  does this. Revert back to original  switches work. Any ideas? Do dms  int. switches have problems?

I'm sure this fix did not support 22 khz as I read in the notes. I can only test diseqc 1.2 and it seems to be performing fine.

Rick,

I am still waiting for an official release from my supplier.

As mentioned above, Joe Franco from Fridge has made his software available with some good working fixes.  At least that is what I was told today.  It was available for download and then removed, due to some sort of misunderstanding and I was told that it is now posted on his site again.

You can also go to these sites if you want to test software, but I cannot say that this is official software and I am not testing it, as I am waiting for my supplier to send me their updates and I have also asked them to make a public web site with the downloads available for anyone.

http://www.stbhd.com and http://www.yojiatech.com/a/Support/

Also, since I am not testing the software from these locations, I am not endorsing them in anyway and it is very possible that the software may include inappropiate things to do with hacking and as you all know, this site is all about Legal Free To Air Signals.

So try new software at your own risks or read others reports before trying or wait for what I can get from my supplier that I will test and send to others who want to test it.

I cannot say when they will send it to me, but they told me in an e-mail from overnight, that they are continuing to work on the American version.

Thanks,

Rick

Thanks Rick
appreciate your response. I went over to fridge and it is not available over there...maybe to the VIP or people that purchased from him.....
Thank you for the links everyone needs to make the decision to wait for your official release or take a chance with recent  available code for anyone .

Just my opinion but the exclusive code deal makes me uncomfortable .. leads to questions like are there backroom deals for only certain dealers and openbox.
You certainly don't have to answer this and no support for f/w updates was implied or guaranteeing when i purchased from you so I understand no pressure on you for this issue. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff and everything is small stuff..
I really like you Rick and think your business dealings are honest and straight froward

edit:  I followed those links and for north america june 21 is the latest ? .

The newest firmware does fix reelz and abc jerkiness but on the abc mux it almost looks standard definition now. Flip to the puerto rico 720p abc and that actually looks BETTER than abc's feed. They messed something up or the openbox cant handle the feed so they did something funky to make it play at least 1/2 right.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
