Reply with quote | #16 | No doubt the 4.8m will solve your problems if you're that close on CNR. I don't know the Topfield receiver, but demod chipsets released in the past year seem to have taken a significant step towards closing the gap between previous chip performance and the theoretical limits. I've personally tested tuners based on the STV0903 and the improvement on very low CNR signals is dramatic.
You probably don't want to change out your Corotor II Plus if you're using it for circular C-band, but between the feed's design limitations and the losses connected to the dielectric plate, I'm pretty certain this is killing at least one dB of CNR over a lower loss feed.
How long a cable run do you have? Is there plenty of level at the end for the transponders in question on the SA? A few tweaks can occasionally buy 0.5 dB in CNR or little more. |

Reply with quote | #17 | Your doing great that you can even get these signals from where you are located. I agree with pendragon as you are losing quite a bit of signal with a circular feedhorn from the dielectric plate. I have both a corotor 2+ that gets linear and also one that will get both linear and circular known as the wideband version. I tried the wideband one a few times and always noticed a reduction in picture quality on analog channels and a noticeable loss in signal on digital channels. I use the standard corotor 2+ since there is not much programming that interests me that is in cirular C-Band. If need be I take a piece of dielectric and stick it into the end of my feedhorn temporarily to get a circular channel.
As far as the best receiver in terms of sensitive tuners it is the Vantage 1100 HD hands down. It will pull in weaker signals steady that some of my other receivers will not. I don't think it will solve all your problems until you go the route of removing the dielectric plate or swapping the feedhorn out for a standard linear one. Still the Vantage 1100 HD will get you the best results out of any receiver out there today.

Reply with quote | #18 | Thanks for all the replies guys... I forgot to mention that I have a band pass filter between my LNB and Feedhorn and for sure I am loosing about .5dB's there.
But I need to use this band pass because of the very strong wifi signal nearby at 3550 Mhz that interferes on my C band I get reading of 0dbm when compared to -40dbm signals from satellite.
Anyways sounds like I will get the Vantage... I am seeing alot of channels on the analyzer that is not reported on Lyngsat but I need the vantage to tell me the symbol rate. looking at the analyzer i have an idea but never know for sure what they are.
If anyone knows how to get this on the analyzer let me know
BTW does anyone actually know the footprint of this 78W Simon Bolivar satellite?

Reply with quote | #19 | If you want to get the SRs off the analyzer you will need to take the carrier down to baseband and look at the resulting spectrum. There will be a spike at the SR. An old analog tuner can do this if it has a baseband output and can be fine tuned close enough. Otherwise a mixer and a signal generator can also do if you have the right ones lying around. |

Reply with quote | #20 | Guys,
This is what I am getting this afternoon on Simon Bolivar ... 2 feeds just started not too long ago.
I badly need an extra db to lock this bird.

Reply with quote | #22 | I am trying my very best to catch on my 3.5M I really don't want to install the 5M dish that I have ... It is a lot of work besides the supporting tower that I also need to build custom made ...
Startone C1 is between 3 to 4 db's but Simon Bolivar is the strongest south american Bird that I can get here in Canada sometimes peaking 5.5 dbs so the picture cracks like crazy...
I really spent a lot of time fine tuning my dish, it took me about 3 months to get perfectly tracking from T12 all the way to 139W (C/Ku)... It is very rewarding to see my dish picking up this 78W bird from where I am.

gregom: WOW... i am located in Southern California and so far have had no luck catching 78ºW C, in the Ku side i got a weak signal a couple of weeks ago, but have had not luck since then. It's neat to see you have even that weak signal on the C Band side of that sat off the spectrum analizer. Cheers

Reply with quote | #24 | Mikhel,
It never came to my mind the Ku side and interesting enough I found 3 signals there:
11582 V S/R around 7800 SNR:11dB's 11626 V 3000 SNR:6.5dB's 11636 V 3000 SNR:6.3dB's
What dish and LNBs are you using?

Reply with quote | #25 | A 10 foot prime focus dish (fiberglass) with a BCS621-2 LNBF (C/Ku), the one i got was:
11634 V, SR 3000, which it's the same as the 11636 V you got, if you want to input the PIDs and check if you get anything at all: VPID 4194 APID 4195 PCR 4194
From what i got to watch it is from Puerto La Cruz in Venezuela. Cheers
