Reply with quote | #1 | Because I was going to MidOhio today for the Superbike races, I set up the Axbox under Reserved Recording to record the ALMS race from Lime Rock on a USB HDD. Set the recording time to 3 hrs for the 2hr45min race. Recorded fine. File size of 4.2gb. But, file will not playback using the Recording options in the Service Menu. Loading from File Manager, it plays for just a few seconds before stopping and returning to the menu. Moving the HDD to the pc, the file plays ok using either VLC or MPC. Set up the HDD for sharing. Loaded file to Azbox and it played over the network for a few seconds, just like when the HDD was directly connected to the Azbox. Moved the HDD to my Sonicview SV8000, Video plays ok, but no audio. What's going on here? Any ideas? That 4.2gb file too big for the Azbox even though it records to that size? I previously ran a test to see how well the Azbox recorded. I recorded NASA HD for a short while. File is about 600mb. Plays back just fine on the Azbox. Regarding the No audio on the SV8000, could it be that it doesn't like that I recorded the Speed Digital signal instead of the regular audio Speed signal? No problem with ac3 any other time.
I would stream the file using VLC but I still have not been able to get streaming to work. (Subject of some of my previous posts.)

Reply with quote | #2 | It seems that your HDD is formatted using FAT32. I let the AZBOX format my HDD using Linux and have no problems for anything that's under the 20 MBits limit. People have reported that a FAT 32 formatted drive will only record a file only so big and stop but formatted in Linux it has no problems.

Reply with quote | #3 | Yes, HDD is formatted FAT32 on the pc. I reformatted the drive on the Azbox. I'll give it a try today recording the Rolex race, same length. Thanks for the input.

Reply with quote | #5 | Been a while now but, if I recall, it made no difference. I have just about given up on using the Azbox for recording. I have files that I recorded with the Azbox that now, when trying to playback, I get the message that the format is not supported. If I really want to record, I connect the lnb out on the Azbox to the lnb in on the SV8000 and record on the SV. OK as long as it is not 4:2:2. (The SV8000 was my primary fta receiver until the Azbox came out.)

Reply with quote | #6 | I had not had any good playback using AZBox's recordings but if I record on my pc (ATI 7000 AIW Card), it plays back perfectly. |

Reply with quote | #8 | Let me ask this question:
Has anyone had any luck recording and playing back on the AZBox elite? If yes, what was the SR of the signal, what firmware are you using and how was the HD formatted (FAT, FAT32, etc)?
I recall someone saying earlier if would record if the SR was less than 20K, but I have not been able to recording and playback anything.
I would really like to get the AZBox to record, but no luck for me yet.
Thanks, John |

Reply with quote | #9 | I've had no problem recording Standard Def Channels or even the PBS HD channels on AMC21....however, the PBS channels multiplex 2 HD channels into a SR of 30000 so I'm assuming the data rate is lower than a good HD sports feed. I tried recording the Michigan Football feed last week with no luck ... SR of 30000 on the Big Ten Network.
My USB Harddrive is formatted EXT2. I formatted the receiver from the AZBOX itself. Once I learned it was EXT2, I decided to format it to EXT3 (which is a more common format) .... recording on EXT3 was horrible. Reformatted back to EXT2 and recording the SD stuff was back to normal. I use a Linux OS as my desktop so I'm fine with EXT2 and avoid FAT filesystems.
