Thanks for the advice to set up the sat order in the way I want it (consecutively along the arc). Sure enough, I've scanned a few birds, but it won't feel so bad to wipe the slate clean this early in the Vantage's tenure here.

Next question: For fun, I tried to get the Vantage to record onto the little 1 GB USB drive I'm using to transfer channel files. It wouldn't, saying the drive was too full or too small. So what's the minimum size for the Vantage to actually record to a thumb drive?

I think I read somewhere that it has to be larger than 1Gb. I tried a 4 Gb and it worked. Even with 4Gb I still only go maybe a half hour of HD on it before it was full.

Additionally, the Vantage can only recognize the FAT32 file system. So, if your thumb drive has a different file system than that, you'll have to format it as such. Naturally, FAT32 is limited to 4gb files, so despite having an 8 or 16gb thumb drive, your file size for recording is hindered greatly.

why?
it splits the files to comply with the 4gb limit, but it record as much as the size limit of the thunb drive.
Every PVR using the fat32 system do the same.
recording is hindered by the full hard drive only,as long as it has free space,it will keep recording.

Correct Time?
I'm running 2.57 beta
Under TIME SETTING, it reads 16:06 local time yet it's actually 10:27am.  I am unable to access the top 2 fields, GMT Time or Local Time to make any changes.

Any suggestions?

The box takes the time from the trasponder TDT,no way to change that, only way is to accommodate the time zone until it matches your time.
But not all sats use the correct TDT,so will drift all the time when you change sats.
I just forget about that, amd if i want to record something using the reservation menu,I just set the time zone to match the actual time, only then  enter a reservation.

Thank you VERY much.  Do you have any "favorite sat transponders" that have the time data?

not really, very often you find trasponders in the same satellite have different time, very hard to have any favorites.
What I do is to tune the trasponder I want to record and only then set the timer,I can leave it unattended after that
But if you change the trasponder/satelite before the set reservation,it can screw up everything, but never did that yet, never needed to.

Something I'm seeing a lot on my Vantage 1100 ( driving a DG380 motor) is the the limits are being set ( not by ME ! ) .  Frequently I try to come back east from 125W, for example, and the motor goes part way and stops.   I have one bird in the list that is Diseqc 1.2 motor mode ( just for this reason).  I go to motor control in the Vantage, select Echo at 61.5 and disable limits.  Then all is well again until the next day , or so.
I  HAD thought that it was my interconnected receivers that was creating the problem, with my AZbox having the other dish on it's Diseqc port 4, but I've dropped the Vantage and 1M dish to being totally isolated, and the problem is still occurring.  At least I have a work-around.

Got a new Vantage problem. I changed the names of a bunch of satellites and deleted a bunch of transponders. Now when I try to manually scan and edit a transponder, I get the message "Please wait . While TP resorting". I've let it sit like that for a couple of hours, and the only way to get out of it is to flip the on/off switch.

Have you heard of this sort of situation, or better, how to resolve it?

See Post #360 , this thread.  I don't think the Vantage likes having its satellite names editted after channels are in place.  I think the fastest recovery is to start over .
