What exactly is it, that I can see some signals and not others with a 6' Cband dish

I want to contact a government state TV channel

about the possibility that they increase the power so I can get the signal on a 6 foot

What I would like to know from you guys, if that change can be easily be done and what exactly do I ask them to do, so I can see that channel on a  6 foot dish

I can see other s2 signals from that satellite on a 6' dish

I have contacted that station in the past about why they where not on HD and to my surprise the general director (manager) replied to my email and told me that they did not have the technical capability to do so, that was a few years ago, that station is now on HD on that satellite.

Also I don't know if its frowned upon in this forum to contact satellite stations about anything, but that station is a government station that is very sensitive to anyone contacting them and thus maybe eager to please.

Thanks

To be honest we all know that decisions in the government can take sometime...

I would rather upgrade your 6ft with am offset 6ft if space is a limitation...Or just try to get an 10ft ND u should be ok...

Good luck

Perhaps you should first read up on just how sat signals work and look into what it takes to put and keep a sat in orbit. Because the sats are just powered by solar panels and on board batteries there already is an upper limit of just how much total power which can be shared between all the output tps. There is almost noting they can change "just to make you happy" on your end. This would even be true with most OTA tv stations also. It is up to the end user to have the proper  equipment to receive what they are offering for signals. A 6 foot  dish is not a serious size for the C band signals over all. Getting a larger dish "can be" as simple as looking for one and asking the current  owner if they are using said dish. Often these are near free just for taking them down. If life was as you wish then I would call up my local weather man and "demand" some better weather. Get a 10 foot dish and get most of the signals most of the time. I have an extra dish here if you wish to  drive over and load  it  up. Zip code 52302.

Generally, its assumed its not a good idea to contact a network, or station that is broadcasting in the clear in FTA. Or at least its what i have been told several times across many different forums and in fact to face discussions. There are a multitude of reasons. Generally speaking most of the signals we receive in the clear simply arent really meant for us. Id agree that usually a larger reflector, 10' or larger, will receive nearly anything if its well tuned. Heck even an 8' dish would be a large improvement. And as has been stated nearly every time if you ask the person that has the dish will give it to you for nothing. I only ever had one person kinda grill me as to why i wanted a dish, so I told em the truth I wanted it for the parts. I personally have been pretty satisfied with what i have received FTA knowing full well its never a guaranteed thing. Another thing you could try if you havent already is install a new PLL lnb or lnbf, and tune you system up. As stated before your not going to get everything with a 6' dish however there should be plenty up there, and it is for free other then what you invest in equipment. Hope you can find a solution to improve your reception issues. If you do go the bigger dish route i promise you wont regret it.

I'm not sure what government station you are referring to, but the most likely reason you can receive some DVB-S2 signals and not others on your 6 foot dish is because a 6 foot dish can't block out signals on adjacent satellites which are spaced 2 degrees apart.
Perhaps there are no signals on adjacent satellites for the DVB-S2 signals you can receive, but there are interfering signals on adjacent satellites for the government signal you are trying to receive.  As others have mentioned, the answer is to get a larger dish.
Also, it is not helpful to the FTA community when you contact any satellite broadcaster about their signal.

Word is the government will be adding many channels to the current mux on Galaxy 99 Maxwell Smart.BTW what sat has a better name..Galaxy 99 Maxwell Smart or Simon Bolivar?

From reports and looking at the footprint a dish no larger than a pizza pan 18" is needed.

Good luck the government will never let you down!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_Smart

For anyone who missed this funny tv show the first time around do not worry. Rumor is it will return soon as a part of many peoples lives. I find the tv shows from many years now past as more pleasant than most of the current line up on prime time.

Here I can get this tv joy from both my FTA dishes and my OTA antenna. Agent 86 and KAOS is in every ones future viewing line up I would guess. Enjoy the show and learn to laugh again. (Barbara Feldon as agent 99) While a shoe phone is funny the cone of silence may be coming back into real life use soon to help keep secrets quiet.

But get a bigger dish and FTA gets smart and easy to do. Get Smart sounds like a bumper sticker. Remember at the time of writing of the Get Smart tv show there were no cell phones or home pcs either. (or home sat dishes either) (the phone in the picture has a round wheel on it--nice)

If it was 1980 and satellites were still spaced > 4 degrees apart, ya might have a better shot with a small antenna. Fortunately (for feed hunters) and unfortunately (for cband56) there is enough demand for satellite bandwidth that they have to space them 2 degrees or less. We are blessed with many feeds to look for however.

The Broadcaster in question, without even knowing what it is, certainly has a limited budget (technical, and financial). Regardless whether you can rcv a signal or not, it is safe to assume neither of their budgets are designed around satisfying mr cband56, boblop or myself on rick's forum.

this article got me thinking of what boblops's house might have looked like in 1980, before he had so many spare dishes[smile]
