bogie,

Yes it is as long as you had 1.1.4 or greater installed the dependancies required for it are met to run some of the newer MicroSD images.

Using the WEB Update
It downloaded, but when I clicked to Install it?
A PopUp appeared and said the file was too large for the available space, and to try a smaller version....
I've tried it several times, with the same results, including rebooting between them...
Where can I find a smaller version?

So now I've downloaded from the Website the "DB-J648-Wetek-ota-2015-07-15_12-47-40" zip file
Which is the WETEK PLAY - WETEK OS ANDROID UPDATE V1.1.5
I need to get an USB stick first... the ones I have, have other stuff I don't care to mess with
So, putting it on a USB stick, do I need to unzip it?

Or is there a better way to get the Update?
maybe I've been doing something wrong with the WEB UPDATE process?
although it seems pretty straight forward...

Thanks!
Al

Al,

What version do you currently have in your Wetek right now?  Also if you can look in the settings menu and see how much free space you have that will be helpful.  It is the top choice on the left side of the main screen.  In some of the original Android OS's after doing the OTA update it would still keep the size of the update file in the Wetek Update data and not clear it after install.  That was corrected in 1.1.4 and is no longer an issue.

Go to Settings, Android Settings, Storage, and see how much free space you have listed in Available.
If you are familiar with Android on a cellphone and clearing an apps data that would help in the Wetek Update app to free up disk space.  If you see around 450 mb of data in the Wetek Update app then clearing that will free up space and allow you to do the OTA update.

To see how much the Wetek Update App is consuming for data go to Settings Again, Android Settings, Storage, and you will see Apps.  Click on Apps and scroll down to WeUpdate and click on that.  It will pop up another menu for the WeUpdate and show 3 things listed, total, app, and data.  Again the data should be minimal around 100k or so.  If its around 450mb or so click on the clear data button and that will free up that space and not harm the app at all from updating OTA.

You don't have to unzip that file just transfer it to a USB drive formatted in fat32 and you can go into Wetek Update and manually update it which is another option.  If you are running out of space it may still not let you do the update manually.

Here is a video below with instructions how to do the update manually.

I have version.....

From Settings: In Storage, it says 1.89 Total space, but under that it has 505MB Available

Going into KODI it has V14.1 helix
And it's now saying preparing for 1st run

Maybe it's loading the 1.1.5
I'm waiting to see what's going on
Get back in a minute...

THANKS Emil!

Letting you know where I am with this
I went into Settings/Android Settings/Storage/Apps and cleared as much Data as I would dare
Not knowing what most of the Apps are?
Also Uninstalled a few of the Apps
I started with 505MB Available
Got it to 748MB Available
Still not enough to get it to work
I might go back in and clear some more out, not knowing what they are scares me a bit

I also have 3 USB sticks
2 of which came with my 2 Pansat 9200's some years back
Don't have a clue of how much space is on either of them (they are alike)
I cleared everything off one of them and tried to put the 1.1.5 zip file on it
Computer said "not enough available space"
So I have another USB stick that has 16GB of total space with 7.3GB free space
I put the 1.1.5 zip file on it and stuck it in one of the Back USB Slots on the WETEK
The WETEK didn't seem to find any files on it, maybe it didn't see it (maybe it's not fat32)
I tried another USB slot, no go, then another slot from the side, no go
The indicater light on the USB stick would light up and Flash from each slot
The WETEK didn't seem to see anything????
That Stick has a lot of stuff I'll not willingly part with, so re formatting it is out of the question
So, for now the project is on HOLD until I get around to getting a new USB Stick
Thanks for your help Emil!
Al

Al,

You can find the version of the Wetek OS in the settings menu where you found the available disk space.  Under settings on the left go all the way down to the bottom and you will see About Wetek.  Click on About Wetek and you should see on the bottom build number and below that version.  Those are the two important pieces of information.

Have you updated your Android OS before and in particular did you ever try one of their developmental builds?  If so you may have to do a manual update if you used a developmental build.  I had that happen to me when testing developmental builds for the ATSC tuner as it wouldn't allow me to update by USB or OTA to one of the regular builds.  You would need a spare MicroSD card for that type of update and hopefully that isn't your issue.

Your 16GB USB drive may be alright and you certainly have enough space for the update.  Go into the WeUpdate app as shown in the posted video and choose the local update option.  If you see the file in the window above make sure you highlight that file and click update my box now.  You can also choose to wipe data and media if it lets you get that far.  By choosing to wipe data and media it will be like doing a factory reset.

Emil

Build number - DBWY20150504-184217
Version - 1.1.4
I'm sure I used the WebUpdate to get this version (but I wouldn't sware to it)
I don't think I've tried a Developemental Build before, at least I'm sure I haven't done it with a USB stick
If it was possible thru the WebUpdate I might have, but I don't think so
However it's always possible? I try so much stuff, I don't keep up with most of it
I have put many builds on an MicroSD card
I am more likely to have put a Developemental build on it, although I can't confirm one way or the other
I know I've tried several OpenELEC builds, and been back and forth with them
When I put my 16GB card in a USB slot nothing appears in the window
So maybe I've done something (from the MicroSD card) that won't allow the WETEK to recognize anything in a USB slot?
When I first got my WETEK I used the External HDD (500GB) that I was using with my Pansat 9200 HD for Recording
At some point it stopped working, and it won't work with the Pansat now either, I assume the HDD went dark?
Maybe playing with the MicroSD card caused that to happen?
I currently have enigma2 on the MicroSD card
So, eventually when I get to town I'll get a new USB Stick, and now I'll look at getting a new MicroSD card too
Be nice to have one for OpenELEC and one for Enigma2, also would be nice to have a spare
THANKS Emil!
Al

Al,

That looks like the full 1.1.4 release and not an experimental build.   I would try another USB stick and it won't hurt to get another MicroSD card too.  You may need the card in case you have to do a full recovery.  I have read that the max size card is 32GB and that's what I use but someone from what I remember reading said that they were running a 64GB. A 32GB will be enough though for most anything.

Good Luck,

Emil

Emil,
I got a new USB stick and a new MicroSD card
put "DB-J648-Wetek-ota-2015-07-15_12-47-40" zip file onto the USB stick and the WETEK picks it up in the Window
However, it does the same thing the WebUpdate does, when I try an Install, a PopUp appears and says I don't have enough Available space
Then I put the zip file on the new MicroSD card and it shows in the Window, but the PopUp appears and says I don't have enough Available space
So, I guess I need to do a Full Recovery that you mentioned, how is that done?
THANKS!
Al

Al,

You will need the 3 files shown in the video to be on a MicroSD card and if your using Windows have the card formatted in FAT 32.  You will need the pintool in the video or something to hold the reset button down.

1. Turn off Wetek, turn it upside down, and unplug power cord from back.

2. Insert MicroSD card with 3 files on it.

3. Hold reset button on bottom of Wetek in continually using the pintool, then plug power cord into Wetek for at least 10 seconds more after it powers up.

4. You should see the upgrade working on the screen.  Be patient as this will take awhile.

One fully done the Wetek will boot normally to the main screen as a clean install.

Files needed for clean install.

Thanks Emil!
Been away from my computer for a few days, that's why I haven't responded until now.
Downloaded the files today (Thursday afternoon) from your link, and watched the video 3 times to try and get it to sink in....
Put the files on my new MicroSD card (when I unzipped it, there were actually 4 files, I used all 4 of them),
Unplugged the WETEK, put the MicroSD card into the WETEK, turned the WETEK upside down
Put the Reset Pin into the slot on the bottom of WETEK, plugged the WETEK back in
Counted to 15 slowly, took Reset Pin from WETEK, waited to see what happened while watching the tv screen
Slowly but surely it all seemed to come together, eventually getting to a screen with several (what to choose) options
First option was reboot, I tried to move the highlight line to it, but it suddenly started to schroll out of control
I thought I had messed up, but I quickly unplugged it, then took out the MicroSD card, turned the WETEK back over (upright)
I plugged it back up and it started to boot up. It went through the motions of a first time use. When it got to the Check for Updates part
I gave it a try and it found there was an Update. I downloaded it and then Installed it. All went well
I now have an Updated to Version 1.1.5 WETEK running.
Now I can move on to a new adventure.......
Thanks for all your help!
Al
