darksky, checkout the Anik F1 TP on 107W, peak it up. Then bump ur dish in increments until the signal just starts to fail as indicated by the presence of BER. It will probably start to fail at the same point as the 103W TP. Then repeat the process with the stv0900 driver loaded. Suspect you'll get much closer to the theoretical failure point before it starts to fail.

Make sure your using the latest pull from my repo, I changed some things last night.

I can't get as low as the spread sheet said. I start getting Ber before that. I haven't checked but the lookup table on the stv0900 and stv090x drivers are the same right?

You can double check but pretty sure the S2 cnr lookup tables are identical, except in the case of S1, the stv0900 just uses the s2 lookup table. While the stv090x uses separate cnr lookup tables for S1 & S2.

after modifying the stv0900 driver in the hg tree to printout the same as the stv090x driver in the git tree for comparison, started filling in the blanks for the stv0900 driver. continue it later.

After the last pulls and compiling/installing on updateDVB and  v4l-updatelee-git I can not get that low either. My Signal Q db's have doubled (Might to be too high now; JMO).

Sat 107 W 3861 V 3000
FEC 2/3
Signal Q 23.2 (centered on sat) and starts getting BER at 14.1

I have noticed now my manhattan drops out at he same time as updateDVB once again on this tp.

Also this is supposed to be Modulation 8PSK now it says 16PSK.

Quality output looks strange. Try switching adapters a couple times, blindscan the other adapter then return.

First time thru for me seemed a little buggy, upon a tune it was reporting correct Q for an instant then it'd drop to zero and stay there. After switching adapters a couple times blindscanning each, then returning to the Prof 7500 eventually it would start reporting snr correctly in updatedvb. The whole time the output in femon looked right, so seems possible a bug with updatedvb threads or something?

I only have the one card. It seems to play alright. Also noticed my frontend in the lower left corner of main page of program has changed to "STV0900 frontend" it used to say "STV090x Multistandard"

I took my birdog ultra out today and was able to squeeze out a little more on my dish dish today. I brought some of my tp's out of the dirt for the new updateDVB and it's new modules.

ahh, so ur currently running the hg tree using the stv0900.
That explains it. I shoulda known by the 16APSK.
I had to modify stv0900_core.c to get it printout the snr in the format that updatedvb is now expecting.

since udl isn't maintaining the old v4l hg tree anymore, try tuning up the same two functions in stv0900_core.c of the hg tree that
I did and recompile it. This isn't a patch, so you'll have to manually copy/paste the two functions in two different locations. Look for them here.

As far as I know I am running the new git tree modules. I just re-installed the new git tree modules just to make sure. I wonder if UDL switched me over in the last update. It's either that or something got buggered in the pull.

I think it is playing better here now. I probably should not complain.

Just remembered I had tested the old hg tree modules with kernel 3.11 with latest updateDVB pull this afternoon and the Signal Q was around 32db.

I will try your file out later this evening after supper.

While I am thinking about it. I have been doing some fresh clones on the new v4l-git tree while I was experimenting on different linux installs with the same 3.11 kernel the last couple of days. If you follow the directions in the README:

sudo make menuconfig:

This creates the directory include/config when you save .config and exit menuconfig.
The problem is the directory is created with root only privilages and when you run the next command:

make deb-pkg

The program can not write it's config data to include/config directory because make deb-pkg is not run as root.

I have to manually change the permissions before i run make deb-pkg as a normal user for it to go ahead and compile.

Have not tried it but can tou run "make menconfig" as normal user?

Just did a fresh pull on the v4l-update-tree and compiled everything but only installed the fresh modules and everything is back to normal with the frontend "STV090x Multistandard" , Modulation, Signal Q db, pixelization, and BER errors on low signals (Should have left it like it was; LOL). Do not know what happened to my other tree. I could have installed the v4l-hg tree modules by accident this mourning after the v4l-git update pull but you would think that re-installing the v4l-git modules back afterwards would overwrite them like this last time..

I'm having better luck with the Qwtpicker "crosshairs" then the blindscan.

Blindscan misses on one run then might pick up on another pass.

Question, anyway to tell what peaks are analog or not dvb signals, does one of the cards or usb
tuners detect all types of modulation(NTSC,PAL,SECAM, etc) plus digital?

I've got my spectrum widened to 11500 and everynow and again I get a burst at 11515 of low amplitude 32,000 at most.
Anybody know what might be causing that. Do airports use that freq?

Keep in mind what your really looking at is something between 950 and 1450 MHz, for a standard North American LNB (10750 LO). So probably just random garbage and not real RF because ur frontend can only tune between 950 and 2150 MHz. If using a Universal LNB ya might be looking at something else, but the frontend is still looking at L Band frequencies within this range.

Having said that, if using an RTL2832 SDR or a real Spectrum Analyser to look at the L band spectrum from ur antenna system, you can spot various beacon signals that are used for locating the satellites and low speed data signalling back at the satellite operator's NOC, etc. The beacon, at L band once down converted by ur LNB, are usually just below 950 MHz or just above 1450 MHz in North America, depending on which satellite. If ya really wanna see what is just outside the L band IF Bandwidth, take a look at it with an SDR or real Spectrum Analyser so ya can get better resolution BW.

yes andy, for the stv090x driver until the tuned frequency readback is fixed,
blindscan probably won't work quite right for the stv090x driver and the prof devices.
Like I mentioned earlier, my observations are overall the PROF 7500 seems more stable on the the stv090x driver, never requiring a pwr cycle for instance. How about you guys? Ever have to pwr cycle it?
But the stv0900 driver seems to perform slightly better, at least on weak 8PSK FEC 2/3 for whatever reason.
I would concentrate on noting any performance differences between the two drivers at various modcodes for a while until
UDL gets back to it.

Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed.
