I think the stv090x driver uses some functions of the stb6100 driver to do some work that the stv0900 driver does not. That's the fundamental difference (I think)??

before I lose track of where I saw this, here's how the user land normalization of strength and quality compare.
Might make sense to pick one and make them use the same method?

fe_type_t  type from dvb_frontend_info is depreciated. They tell you to use DTV_ENUM_DELSYS, which is how you pull the info from .delsys, personally Id like to see the modulations and fec depreciated from .caps, but I think I'll fight that battle when the api is being revisited (not any time soon)

Proposal for consideration.

I was comparing v4l media driver against v4l updatelee driver code.
Couldn't help but wonder if they could reside side by side.

The code changes could be turned on or off with a flag generated by updateDVB.
The biggest thing I was considering was the 'msleep' times in the tuner drivers.
A table might be constructed to change the times for certain conditions. During a spectrum scan
msleeps might be totally bypassed. During a tune where signals are at a low level msleep could be
increased to allow tuner lock. UDL, I know you have considered the msleep(times) as some are totally removed
in your version of stb6100. I think this maybe a way to tweak the frontends.

for spectrum scan the msleeps that are there are required to let the tuner change freq. the msleeps in the demod code never get executed because the demod is turned off during spectrum scan.

Try the latest commit. majortom pointed out some long frame tracking errors in stv090x, I fixed them all. cut 2.0 chips still not performing as well as cut 3.0 ones but all my cut 2.0 seem to work equally as bad (really not much worse, just ever so slightly)

modcode vs measured c/n failure point, starter kit baseline test results for stv090x.
note: I'm calling c/n fail as the point at which ber just starts to occurr as I bump the dish away from peak.

modcodes I didn't test. The only one I can find so far that's significantly off is the S2 8PSK 2/3, which

Had the same results with an 8PSK 2/3 FEC on Anik F1 107W as 103W 4040H 30000
So the 2/3 FEC is confirmed on two different transponders.

Little envious of you UDL, Edmonton is the gateway to some of the most scenic country in the world.
I remember the Peace River country when I traveled the AlCan. Made a mental wish to go back and
canoe the river.

Skystar 2 express HD stv0903 cut 3.0 non-advanced / stb6110 start getting ber at 7.0 (ber 5-20)
TBS6925 stv0900 cut 3.0 advanced / stb6100 shows 0.1db lower (6.9 db), ber is slightly higher (500)
Prof 8000 stv0903 cut 2.0 non-advanced / stb6100 shows 6.9db but much higher ber (53000). starts getting ber at 8.5db
Prof 7500 stv0903 cut 2.0 non-advanced / stb6100 shows 6.9db but much higher ber (53000), starts getting ber at 8.5db

The cut 3.0 defn work better for low signals (right now) Im not saying the 3.0 cuts are that much better, its just I think we need some work on the 2.0 cuts in stv090x to bring them closer to the 3.0 versions.

We're going to Wabamun Lake, just west of town. Bringing the canoe, hope to get on the water and get me some Pike and Walleye !
