Yeah, that's probably the best route to take.  I assume this is on the Ultra listed in your sig block, and if so, I don't know anything about the connections in that receiver.  It's possible that some of the SD or CF chip adapters might work with the Ultra.  My failures were with my Elite.  If you found an affordable DOM, you might just load your 5308 on a new DOM, and still have your current DOM as a backup.

EDIT: One other thing, have you logged on to your Azbox with putty or some other terminal program, and sent a df command to see if you maybe short of space on the DOM? I think the hda3  /DISK2 space is most likely to cause a problem.

You can find replacement DOM on Ebay for reasonable prices.   FWIW I didn't see a significant difference in performance using a new faster DOM compared to factory and would expect the same to be true for a SD or CF card as the IDE interface is still the bottleneck.

That may be true for the Premium, Plus, or Ultra, but with my Elite, for me to record I have to go through the USB port, and that is definitely a bottleneck.  My goal had been to turn my Elite into a Premium, using SD memory to bypass the USB port.

Exactly what I would expect.

There's no material bottleneck in this application due to the PATA interface. The DOM is where the OS lives. Normal operation loads most of what is needed into RAM on boot, so once running, I/O to/from DOM is relatively insignificant. A PATA interface is plenty fast enough for creating and playing back HD video files as long as the storage device connected to it isn't a limitation.

SATA and SAS are IDE devices too. IDE is simply integrated drive electronics, as opposed to previous drives' need for electronics living on a separate component controller. IDE as used in BIOS is a misnomer.

Probably a good idea to have a spare just in case.
I haven't checked yet on space but there are way more entries in the channel list than I need so if that resides in disk2 as well sounds like there might be a possibility.

I have been working with Maz and other programs trying to edit the channel list and do away with the ones I don't use or need any longer but this is proving challenging in itself. I just can't seem to get rid of those unwanted entries LOL !

I lost track of where you were on your project but were you ever able to the the SD or CF to work with your adapters?   I totally appreciate your desire to avoid the USB port but did you ever consider just get a larger DOM (32GB or 64GB) or laptop drive and avoiding adapters?

Unfortunately, just too many things going on around here for me to get back into that project, but eventually I will.
I don't think a bigger DOM will help, because I wouldn't be able to use it to record, since it would still boot up as an Elite.  The laptop drive would work, but it would either require two drives, both with adapters from big to little drives, or a cable with a reverse sex plug for the DOM, and would require power supplies for any drives used.  Either route would be very messy though.  I'd probably have to rig up an enclosure to put everything into.  Whereas if the dual CF gadget with the two CF to SD adapters would have worked, everything could have fit inside the Azbox cover.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
