Hi to All Who Visit Our Humble Forum!

One of our Forum members, Stu from INDY, has reached out to me and presented an Idea of what he would like to do in memory of Barry McKinney (Forum Member ID:  AC Radio).

Barry had been a part of the Satellite Community for Many Years and he would unselfishly help almost anyone on anything that he could and over those years.  I was very happy when he decided to become a part of this forum and it was not long before he became a moderator here.

Sadly, we lost him to a very sudden heart attack on 05/01/2015 after a struggle with many surgeries for his diverticulitis/abscess/infected colon issue.  If you want to read more about it, there is a thread here that he started when he was going into the hospital for the first surgery:
The memorial idea started with an e-mail from Stu saying that he wanted to purchase some satellite time and put up some pictures of Barry and then see if satellite surfers would find it and post it.  I thought about it and suggested that we take the idea to our forum and see what it could grow into.  Rather than make it a secret, let's get those that want to help, get involved and then announce when it was going to happen, so as many as possible would get to see it.

Now for what the content will be and should it be on C or Ku Band?  We are open to collecting ideas and thoughts from you that want to participate in putting this together.  Stu and I think it would be a nice tribute to Barry and that Rachel, his wife would also benefit from knowing that Barry was up on one of the birds that he spent so much time tracing and also how much so many others were inspired and learned from him.

So the initial ideas for content is for some sort of slide show presentation with music background.  Maybe consisting of photos from younger to older days and photos of his Dish Farm.  Also insert text from possible some of his archived posts and or comments from those of you that might want to compose about what Barry meant to you and how he had helped you with either personal or satellite things.

Neither Stu are I are experts at putting together this type of slide show with musical background, so I would also like to know if there is someone here that has that type of expertise and if they would consider being a part of this and helping to put it together?

I can get a good deal on leasing some satellite time, with C-Band being the best deal.  That sounded great to me, but then I thought, more people might get to see the feed, if it was on Ku-Band.  So would also like to hear some responses about this, before we decide.  I have an uplink company that is willing to do this at their cost, since it is for this cause.  We could send them the content and they play it and uplink it for us.

Also, still thinking about it, but I believe that we will also open a Love Fund for Rachel.  So anyone that is touched to the point that they want to donate a little something, that we can send it on to Rachel.

I know this is a pretty long read to get to here and thanks for making it to here.  Please either e-mail or call me or post in this thread with your comments and ideas and let's see where it takes us and what we can do to create a nice memorial to Barry (AC Radio).

Thanks,

Rick Caylor

Imho Rick, a love fund would be best, I'd put money to it over a feed that is only fleeting and temporary....
I have heard that many have plenty of support, food and help immediately after a loss, and that the following years after that when hardships occur they tend to be forgotten. Tho I tend to believe Rachel has a family of believers there for her.

Rick, could you set up a pay pal account for the feed and for Rachel, that would be the easiest way for people to donate to the cause.

Thanks for the suggestions.

For the cost of the satellite time, Stu has said this is something that he wants to do and that he wants to pay for it.  So if indeed that is what in his heart he wants to do, I think it is alright.

I do know that while Rachel has a great support group, that some extra funds from caring and loving donors would be very much appreciated.  She is also wanting to start trying to sell some of Barry's left over satellite equipment.  We are going to try and get a list and photos of items for sell and get them posted before long.  Hockeynut is going to try and help sometime in the future with this as well if his schedule allows.  If there is anyone else that knew Barry and is in the Burnsville, NC area and could assist with this task, please let me know.

I like the suggestion of a Paypal account in Rachel's name, as this will assure to everyone that wanted to make a donation of exactly where it would go to.

Thanks,

Rick

I have not been on the site for a while. I can't believe AC is gone. I am willing to help his family in any way I can. We on Rick's are a family. Please let me know what I can do.

We now have an offer from a forum member to put a DVD together with musical background.  I have wrote to Rachel to see how she will feel about it.

searay, thanks for your comments.  Will keep working on this and just maybe it will come together.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
