All you need is the software.  I just have the 45D as well.

I, um, archived Avcom's site.  I also grabbed updated firmware for it too.  All done through the serial port.  Don't let the lack of ethernet get you down.

I bought one of the ebay psa-45d spectrum analyzers. Works just fine apart from the lithium battery. Are there supposed to be 2 packs in these?

Also, cracklincrotch,  can you share that software with us please?

I only just noticed this past weekend that it can take two battery sleds.  IIRC they are three 12V 2Ah batteries in parallel with a pigtail to plug into the analyzer.

I have had issues with the eight buttons down the left side of the SA.  Gotta replace those as they're becoming a PITA.  Sometimes pressing one button performs a function of another button that wasn't pressed.  It's weird.

ftp://donnie.is-a-geek.com/pub/avcom will get you anything I have.

Instructions on how to reflash with April 2009 firmware are here:

Thanks for the links! Definitely useful stuff.

The battery packs are constructed of three 3.6v, 2400mAH Li-ion 18650H cells in series with a regulator/monitor sub-board tied into each end of all the cells. These 18650s are about $11 each!

I attempted to rebuild the one battery pack that was included because the old cells just wouldn't last longer than 15 min. The pack is charging as I type this.

If this doesn't work because the sub-board is defective, I may build a pack using a 8 cell AA holder & Rayovac NiMH hybrid batteries. I've used them for other applications & they last much longer than regular NiMH. They are rechargable, not very expensive & no worries about a ncessary sub-board in the battery pack.

Edit: These hybrid batts are 1.2V so 10 would be needed. They're only 1500mAH capacity.

I'd be more concerned with the lithium batteries exploding when welding contacts onto them, and I've grown attached to my face and hands.  I'd be much more inclined to go the route of the rechargeable AAs.  At least that's off-the-shelf stuff.

I got my Li-ions at Fry's with the solder tabs - $10.99 ea. "Tenergy" brand 18650s, 2600mAH - China of course. Fry's is really going in the crapper for quality these days. This was just an experiment to see if it could be done.

So far so good with charging. I'll do a complete discharge then recharge. Then test the runtime again.

Replacing the Li-ion batteries worked!

First run time with PSA-45D connected to 3x8 multiswitch & a dmx242 ran 2 hrs.
Will have to repeat this a few times to get max run time out of the batteries.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
