I have an S10 with the 12 27 2012 fw from another webbsite (F&&& FTA).  The S10 is about 3 years old.
The firmware is working well except for the issue with timer recording.  I do not know if it is the firmware or the S10 itself.

This is what happens when I try to do a timer or just an instant recording on a USB stick:

The S10 stops recording after about 10 to 15 minutes.  The "rec" icon is frozen in the upper right of the screen and the S10 has frozen and not recording.  I have to reboot the S10.  The problem has existed for quite a long time.

The timer information has been entered correctly.  There are no weather issues, dish connection problems, or tweaking in the satellite or channel issues.  Does not matter what time of day it is.  And a high bit rate/symbol rate is already taken into consideration because of the USB stick.

Any suggestions?

I also am wondering why the red button on the S10 remote puts a red return point on the television screen above the display banner instead of on the banner itself.  The Manhattan puts its red return to point on the banner. This function is handy to come back to a recording midway through.  Is there a way to fix this?

I believe it is your firmware...I had no trouble with mine when I used to use it for that other than the box shutting off after completing the recording. I will try one on mine and see what happens. I'll get back to you.

I recorded an hour of CTV HDTV on Anik F1 and it recorded fine no freeze up and surprise surpise it didnt shut the box off when the rec was done...that is an added bonus.

I have put a dump of my entire firmware in my dropbox....might want to backup and save your sat list etc. let me know how it goes.  7-17-2011 Skybox fw.

ve1jot -- It is my understanding that fw for the S10 will not work on a S9.  But S9 firmware will work on a S10.  So, I do not know the answer about whether the firmware will work on the S9.

Mountaineer --  I loaded the firmware into the S10 with these results:
The date on the Local Time Setting remained the same as the date that  was in there already.
     Boot graphics changed.
Menu background images did change to the blue Skybox background.
But the internal function did not change.  The S10 did not shut off after a timer recording.
The "Rec" icon stayed on the screen.  And the S10 had to be rebooted.
If I remember correctly, the one hour timer recording did not record the entire hour.

The red marker dot "go back to point" still showed up above the banner and remained on the screen after the banner was gone.

Thanks for trying to help.

So, what I did was, load the original fw that came with the S10.  The S10 recorded the entire timer recording and gave the message the
recording had ended, though the S10 did not shut off.  The "REC" icon disappeared at the end of recording.  The red marker dot still showed up above the banner.

I'll just keep trying.  Makes me think that an internal problem with the S10 is going haywire.

Skywanderer..have you done a factory reset before and after loading new firmware? That may help...also loading by a bootloader and serial  cable may help as well. Sounds like it is not completely clearing it self of old flash fw each time a new one is loaded....also try not loading your channel list aand just scan in channels....channel list may be corrupt.

just thoughts.

ve1jot, this is the fw I run on my S9. In my experience, from various versions I have tried, it's the most reliable in terms of video playback.
Other versions I have tried always seemed to have an issue playing ION, and ABC Muxes ( and both use 720P for HD).
This version has no issues playing anything thrown at it.
I can't speak to subject recording, since I really never record anything.

Just a sidenote, it's a link to my own dropbox. and dropbox recently sent out notification that within a few months, all existing public links would go stale for some reason. I am not really sure if legit as I didn't spend much time reading it. But if it does go stale in the future, someone can just let me know, and I'll make a new public link to it.
