yeah it kinda blows that all these rails have polarized caps in parallel.  my esr meter isnt the best, so i might have to pull them to test..and if i am gonna pull them i may as well replace them.

Took a look inside my Elite. There is a 9pin connector CN201 coming off the PSU that plugs into the main pcb. The voltages are printed on the PSU pcb and read:

+3.3V +3.3V +5V +5V GND GND +12V N.C. +24V

You will need a magnifying glass if you want to read them, or at least I did.

I didn't check any of the voltages but you may want to use a good quality DVM and see if any are floating or have an ac component to them.

I spent a little time trying to research a PSU schematic online but I had no luck. Your luck might vary.

Hope this helps, Bill.

You're going above and beyond merk. I was thinking you were just going to pop it in and see. You guys are awesome around here.  I'm willing to compensate you for your time and expense if you incur some.

here is the verdict..some caps are definitely bad and some are good, but i suggest we replace them all.  there are 15 polarized caps on the azbox's psu.

I think replacing all would be the smart thing to do as well. Let me know what you want to do next merk.

@majortom
this was what i planned on doing since @Hockeynut wanted me to look at his elite also, but then i thought it would be a waste of money buying x3 if replacing the caps didnt fix the issue.  so i decided to just order one set for now.

@boomer_106
the replacement caps will prolly be shipped around the middle of the week, but i am going to be in @Hockeynut's backyard for work all week.  ill get the caps installed over the weekend and test.  if all works i will ship your parts back asap.  if it still does not work after replacing the caps then i will continue testing other parts on the psu.

merkin,
Keep us posted if it takes care of it. I have an elite that may need the same treatment.

Thanks Merk.  No hurry my friend. I'm fine over here. Whenever things happen, they happen.

Yes, that was a particularly frustrating game. They need to score first so Nashville can't just sit back in that 1-4 style. If the Hawks keep playing like they did in the 2nd and 3rd, they should be ok.

If you own an ESR meter, you must have some electronics prowess. I've recapped my Pansat 9200 but, I don't have expensive equipment

It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
