Now that the Oklahoma PBS mux is a thing of the past I am looking to find a PBS Kids feed. If anyone knows where there is one or comes across a PBS Kids feed, please let me know. I'd appreciate it, my grandson would appreciate more.

PBS is planning on launching a nationwide PBS Kids channel this fall (currently, children's channels on PBS stations are programmed at the local level). If they use satellite to distribute the channel to member stations, I would expect it to be on the 12180 transponder on AMC-21. If not, PBS has stated the channel will be live streamed on the PBS Kids website and on the PBS Kids Video App for over-the-top video devices.

I'm not sure if anyone has reported this, but I noticed that this morning the HDO6 channel on the AMC21 12180V30000 mux has been airing a
"KIDS CHannel Test  ***NOT FOR BROADCAST***" signal.
This is obviously being sent HD, however at least on the program I'm watching now, it is an SD window inside the HD screen (ie black on right/left).
Now, it looks like some of the programs are in HD and some are SD, so apparently the eventual PBS Kids channel will be HD.  I wish that they would do the same thing to the Create and World channels, although by the time they've done that, we'd probably lose our satellite signal anyway.

But I am wondering if this HD06 channel might be at least the temporary home of the KIDS channel, since they do seem to have more bandwidth than they need on HD03, HD04 and HD05 for pre-feeds, etc.

According to press releases put out by various PBS member stations, the 24/7 PBS Kids channel currently in test mode is set to officially launch on Monday, January 16, 2017.

Yes, I wish that they had done this for the PBS World channel or Create instead, because PBS during the day is nothing but kids programming already - now they feel the need to add yet another channel? I hope they use the Kids Channel to aggregate all the kids stuff in one place, freeing up the main channels for programming appropriate for people over the age of 10. I guess PBS thinks that no adults watch TV before 6PM?
Occasionally when the weather is bad outside it would be nice to watch a documentary or travel show or episode of Nova or This Old House during the afternoon instead of endless shows about dinosaurs on trains, kid inspectors, and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood. Enough already.

I remember a few years back, '04, '05 or so when all of the PBS feeds were on AMC3 (now SES2) they had one feed channel that was just adult oriented programming. They would run a program then the color bars for a few minutes then go into something else. I remember seeing The War, Baseball, The Civil War, American Experience, Scott Houston The Piano Man just to name a few. The shows were on at the same time every day. When they moved to AMC21 that feed went away. I was told that WORLD would be about the same as that feed, it's not even close.

It appears that wejones and my wishes have finally come true - PBS World is now in HD.
( AMC-21 / 12180V / 30000 )

[smile]

The Spanish-language VME channel is gone.

Strange, VME is gone as you say, but right now, the World, Create, and FNX channels are still 480i SD.
Perhaps they were testing HD when you were watching, or perhaps it just looked like HD since it was 16x9 aspect ratio, ie stretched?

My Icecrypt S1650 now identifies the World channel as HD, and the program I was watching at the time, to my aging eyes, appeared to be HD (but not the best HD).

The political roundtable discussion program (American Forum) on right now is either upconverted SD or straight-up SD, but the IC S1650 still IDs it as HD.

I still haven't upgraded the firmware in the IC S1650, so it doesn't display actual resolution, just "HD" on the banner.

Hopefully the Create channel is next to go HD.

Hmmm, without resorting to the drastic step of actually upgrading the firmware (which involve me getting out of my chair), I did some testing and found that while the "HD" indicator works correctly on the ABC NewsOne feeds on G17 (lights up for chs 3 & 4, off for chs 1 & 2), it stays ON for all the PBS feeds on AMC-21. I could swear that I checked this the other day and the indicator worked correctly on AMC-21 (e.g., off for Montana PBS), but now it's lit up for every channel on AMC-21. So apparently PBS has the "HD flag" incorrectly set on all the channels including those that are SD and/or the IceCrypt S1650 doesn't parse the flag correctly and/or doesn't check the actual resolution of the feed - another bug perhaps.

The value of an "HD" indicator is dubious anyway - just tell me the resolution of the feed already.

No such indication on the SD feeds on 12180 when I checked yesterday. I was wondering what you were seeing. Figured maybe one of the HD feeds were showing a 'world' program or something...

Both TSREADER and VLC show the World video as 720x480i, same as the other SD channels on the mux.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
