Haven't played around with E2 on Azbox HD since RTi releases and was going to try loading OpenATV as there seem to be current builds however I can't find any install guide.   From memory E2 patch.bin (kernel?) gets install via USB after reboot followed by using Azup to complete install?    The OpenATV builds available on their website for Azobx HD all appear to be for boxes which have already been converted, with no USB bin file.   Can anyone point me where to dowload the correct E2 patch.bin file to use for going from OFW -> OpenATV?    Thank you.

Process RTi Core RC5 pass or RC4 or another firm

- let the box format and partition your usb stick (i used a 8GB stick)
- insert it into your pc
- windows will ask if you would like to format the drive
- click yes
- fileformat FAT
- OK
- now you can see a 60MB FAT partition in windows
- copy patch.bin from RC4 on this partition
- boot azbox with that stick and it will recognize the patch.bin in bootmenu
- after that you will get in to rescue mod again

Which AZBOX do you have?  On the 2nd generation boxes Premium plus and Ultra Enigma 2 images will not display most US HD feeds correctly.  This is a major issue if you want to watch those feeds.  The other issue is that the original AZBOX's do not have a lot of memory, little space available on the stock DOM, and will run very slow.   The only AZBOX's that really run Enigma 2 well are the ME and MiniME.  What reason do you want to upgrade to Enigma 2?

lilo74:  Thank you for the link and guide

Hi Emil,
I have an Ultra which long ago I had loaded E2 builds and do recall issues with feeds and blindscan which resulted in return to factory firmware.     Fast forward to today my Ultra gets little use other than occasional 4:2:2 feed which is why I thought I'd experiment a bit and try OpenATV.   I have an larger/faster DOM which I plan on using which hopefully will improve the experience although I recognize it won't resolve issues with NA FTA feeds.

I'm guessing you've tested out lastest openATV builds (5.3) so may I ask which HD feeds does the Me have trouble?

Install of OpenATV 5.3 completed without issue.   I probably should have asked this before installing but is there a working blindscan plug-in?

The AZBOX ME or MiniME has no issues playing HD feeds.  There has been 3 generations of AZBOX's.   First is the Elite and Premium, second is The Premium Plus and Ultra, and the third being The ME and MiniME.   The 2nd Generation ones  like the Premium Plus and Ultra did have the HD playback issue in the past and likely still do.  Feeds like ABC, CBS,NBC, and all what you mentioned had issues.  I noticed this first hand doing a Premium Plus for someone else.  The feeds would play fine for a short time and then start to pixelate and get out of synch with the audio.    Also blind scan Using Enigma 2 on the 2nd generation AZBOX's is basically useless and will take forever if it works at all.   On the Premium Plus I did a few years back a blind scan sat there for over 30 minutes and never completed on any attempts.  Let us know your results with OpenATV 5.3 as there may have been a fix on the HD and blind scan issues.

On my Elite I never noticed this and I believe the first generation of AZBOXs don't have the HD issue with Enigma 2.

Lack of functional blindscan and issues with network HD feeds would be deal breakers.   Just to relearn everything I went thru uninstall back to OFW.    Bootup time using factory DOM is slow, although GUI navigation was OK.   Hopefully there will be an improvement with new DOM although I suspect the IDE interface is a bottleneck.   Out of curiosity does the Me use an IDE DOM as well?   I need to get a database editor, maybe dreambox edit?

lilo74: I probably should have looked after the install completed but do the latest builds of 5.3 include blindscan plugin or do I need to add  it?

DOM= Disk on Module where OS gets installed.    Factory DOM in mine is 256MB.  DOM uses standard IDE (40 pin parallel ATA) interface.   Whether it is ATA33, 66, 100 or 133 is unknown to me.

While I await for new DOM to arrive just to test out what's possible I swapped out the factory DOM with 250GB HD and was able to install openATV 5.3.      This may all be a waste of time but it is a hobby.   [smile]

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
