The receiver locks up after the attempt to play the video stalls, but I was able to grab the file.

thanks for the log.

you said that file plays with images on the other partitions.
Which images (versions/ build date) are those that can play it?

Happy New Year everyone.

Way too much work to try to come up with a list, release-by-release, version-by-version.  And I don't see how it would be productive.

I'm going to approach it this way:  The file plays elsewhere, with the spinner problem in OpenESI 3.x, OpenSPA 5.x, OpenATV 5.x.  It notice stalls in OpenSPA 6.x, as it does also stall in your mod of OpenATV 5.x, but I don't remember OpenSPA 6.x having the stalling problem before I installed your OpenATV 5.x mod.  When I say "the file plays elsewhere" I mean it proceeded to play but with the annoying spinner problem which you originally drew attention to.

The file plays perfectly -- as do files in all supported video formats -- in the last released version of OpenRSI 3.0, which is also a kernel 3.9.2 image.  And here when I say it plays perfectly I mean perfectly -- no interruptions, no never ending spinner -- perfectly.

My guess would have been that the spinner problem is with the media player itself.  OpenRSI uses a different media player.  If it were possible and I knew how to replace the media player currently causing the trouble in these other 3.9.2 firmwares with the one used by OpenRSI 3.0, I would have tried that before anything else -- but I don't know whether or how it might be done.

So again my sense is the problem is with the particular media player itself.  It looks like the same engine all these distros -- except for the older OpenRSI 3.0 -- are using, and I think it -- the media player -- is buggy.  But that's just a SWAG.

Anyway, thanks for working on this.  OpenRSI 3.0 lacks a blind scanning feature and that's what keeps drawing me toward these other images.  (Now if OpenRSI 3.0 could be patched to use a blind scanner -- wow.  [smile])

EDIT:  I meant OpenSPA 6.x not OpenESI 6.x.  Now corrected in the original post.

EDIT2:  I reinstalled openatv-5.3-azboxme-20160917_webif in place of openatv-5.3-azboxme-dazulrich_webif and now the same file I've been using plays as it did before, successfully proceeding, but still with the never ending "spinner" problem originally reported.  I also reinstalled openspa-6.0.011-azboxme-20161223_webif and discovered that it does not play the file, but stalls immediately -- same behavior as openatv-5.3-azboxme-dazulrich_webif -- interesting!

Hi. Apologies. I didn't mean a blow by blow account of all versions. If it plays with current version of openatv 5.3 or HDMU , then it's indeed likely to be my changes somehow. I'd love to get that file somehow. As any of my files play ok. I'll upload another version of the serviceinfo.pyo (will add to this post) which has no spinner and skin works ok.
Edit: file attached

Hi rempfer,
in the log I can see this error.
Quote:
SKIN ERROR in MoviePlayer: No module named ServiceInfo

to me this looks like the ServiceInfo.pyo is missing from the /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/Converter folder.
can you check , put the new file from previous post in there and the movie should hopefully play.

when i rename the file and restart E2, any file starts playing and then stops and hangs.. and i can see this error in the log...

I replaced the first ServiceInfo.pyo with the newer, then played two 28 minute GDMX recordings all the way through without locking up.

All was not precisely equal though. Last night I was tuned to 3740V@99W during playback. Tonight all GDMX services have been idle, so I was tuned to ABC 4120V@99W. Last night Telnet was idle during playback. Tonight, I kept Top running in Telnet during playback.

Top reported a fluctuating value for free RAM, plus or minus around .005%, for the first 10-15 minutes of playback. Afterward it locked down at 10,384, or 4.30% free, going to 144,556 free after playback stopped.

Next I moved tuner to 4080V@97W CBS and played back a three year old 7100M/58 minute GDMX recording all the way through without locking up. Now I'm playing a 27 minute CBS recording....

Edit: CBS recording played all the way through OK, so I played another, also without lockup.

Replaced ServiceInfo.pyo in original/unmodified OpenATV 5 distro and the video file plays without interruption, but spinner, etc., is still there and won't go away.  Should I try it instead in your modified version, dazulrich?

EDIT:  Just for the heck of it, I installed your ServiceInfo.pyo file in OpenSPA 6.0.011 (which also stalls on playing video) but it did not fix the problem there.  Was a long shot anyhow.

EDIT2:  Tried adding the ServiceInfo.pyo to your image and playing video file.  Video stalls immediately.  Can exit media player gracefully, however.  The attached log is from your openatv-5.3-azboxme-dazulrich_webif image with your replacement ServiceInfo.pyo added.

Thanks for taking the time testing!
@jdcpa: great. Interesting observation on the RAM use. I'll check if i can figure out what's going on.
@rempfer: Unmoded openatv will have spinners due to other files causing them.
Is this the only file you tested that is stalling ? Do others play?

Which other files do you have in mind?  If you have specific things you'd like me to try, I can try them, but let's be methodical about it okay?  Thanks!

I was just wondering if you have tried playing any other movie? Or just this one.
As other reports seem to indicate files are playing with the modded build.

I just tried three different files that all play perfectly in OpenRSI.  These start to play, pixelate, then video freezes followed almost immediately by audio freezing.

Now a question for you, if you please.  What have you done (if anything) to eliminate the possibility (and I would suggest the likelihood, in fact) that it's the media player plug-in itself that's the problem?  My experience has shown that this problem is not specific to any image, but rather follows this particular media player.

Hmm yes media player. It could well be the player. There are 3 or 4 I can think of.
The EMC which bundled with openatv (start via Azbox Z key on remote) I use that primarily for testing.
The Media Player plugin bundled with the openatv image (via plugin menu).
AzPlay from the feed.
The Media Center Plugin from the feed.
Some other player from the feed.

Which one of the above were you using? If you haven't tried playing the files with EMC, could you please?

The old OpenRSI media centre did NOT use gstreamer, but used the Azbox Sigma chip libraries and played a lot more files, as it bypassed the buggy drivers. I played codecs no other media player did because of that.
AZPlay uses the same libs and can play same codecs , but has a rubbish interface.
I've tried porting the old openrsi Media Center in the past, die to lack of sources, that never happened.
Let me know which player you are using and I'll try replicating the freezing issue here.

This may be apples to oranges, but I thought I would make some observations on media player in 4.2.  If I push Z button and scroll to media player it says not found.  Anyway, I found it under plugins.  There is an EMC config and then media player under that.  Everything seems to play fine for me.  A couple of movies started with the spinner, but it was gone in about 10 seconds.  Most movies, no spinner and no spinner when paused/replay.

Took a while to figure out channel button moves to the playlist and back.  Will try to disable playlist in settings.  Don't need it.

Will check out playback on 5.3 tomorrow and see if I have an flv file somewhere!
