Hi,

As previously mentioned, i've created an inofficial v5.3 test build for Azbox ME, in an attempt to address the most annoying Spinner issues associated with media playback.
In fact it's not so much issues with Media player, but with the buggy drivers and Enigma2 code and python files making ever increasing amounts of calls to the driver.
Some of which where changed in Openatv Enigma code and not changed in other distris, for example openpli and HDMU. Which meant, while Openatv (and OpenSpa, OpenESI, etc)
exhibit excessively long Spinner (and the GUI freeze that comes with it), HDMU did not do same - whilst using same Azbox Mediasink and similar Gstreamer version. (well until the most recent image that is).

Anyway, I've spent quite a bit of time finding all those calls that appear to cause the driver to block when called during media playback - in Videomode.py and some Converter py files. (Calls to XRES, YRES, playposition, etc)
I've removed those calls and use the existing routines to call gstreamer/the current service to provide the info. (ATM, I have removed them irrespective of media playback OR TV )
In addition to that I've tried to improve the media pause/unpause behaviour I observe on my box (where the progress bar jumps forward on pause, back on unpause and then stops moving
until it hits some unknwn playposition and it starts moving again. I've made some changes to the servicemp3.cpp code for file playback, I did not change the behaviour for streaming (yet). Its far from perfect, but way better than the current behaviour.
And finally, i've fixed a few more buttons on the ME WebIF remote.

None of those changes have been pushed to the OE-A or Openatv repos. (in fact, I haven't even created proper patches so far...)

For those of you, who have experienced annoying spinner during media playback with their ME in the past , please have a look and give this image a good bash.
For everyone else, download and use the test build and please report back any positive / negative feedback, to improve the final result.

You can use the normal feed to update plugins, but you can't update the test image without loosing my changes.

The build was against the official git repos on 28th Dec.

thank you !

My understanding is that no new kernels will be made for azbox me or minime due to the fact that a guy named ripper does not do the drivers anymore. that is what I have heard. It would be nice if we could find a way to produce new kernels...E2 has advanced so much since the 3.92 we have. i'd love to see TBS drivers and the Wintv hvr ATSC incorporated for the azbox. Does anybody have any confirmation on any of this info?

dazUlrich awesome work! Do you know anything about no new kernels? Or if TBS drivers or WINTV HVR for 850 and 950Q can be incorporated? I think most of the stuf is there just need to rebuild the kernel or a new one.

Thanks and great work!

Hi.
Well in order to create new Azbox kernel, you need the source code for the Azbox driver. And those have never been shared / made public by the_ripper. He stated an NDA prevents him from sharing.
A few ppl have tried back then and he continually refused.
Without those sources, (and the tool chain) there is no kernel upgrade. Sorry.
Not sure about including other third party drivers in the 3.9.2 kernel, I don't know.

Thank you for the information. I thought that was the case. What a pitty..azme is one of the best boxes ever made...one new kernel could add 16apsk and atsc. The box could go on forever with just that kernel...hopefully he will change his mind or those involved will.
Thanks!!!!

Also could you check the usb interface in E2. I have a prof 7500 hooked up to Azme...it seems to struggle with throughput of high bit rate feeds...box semi freezes slows etc. I have done the patch for the prof and can tune them but they eat up the memory...however the box has no problems with those thru the original tuner.

Thanks!!!!!!

I installed the webif version.  I notice no spinner at all when booting up (should be a spinner active then, shouldn't there?) and when playing (or attempting to play) a video file it plays for about one second and then stalls.  No spinner, but also video stops almost immediately.  FYI, the videos did play on the other partitions.  Not complaining, just wanted to give a report.  Thanks for your work, dazulrich.

Thanks rempfer. Any chance you could start enigma from cmd line and post the debug output when starting movie. If you don't Know-how to, I'll post some how to.

guys.

I notived I broke one of the renderer files and the skins aren't displayed properly.
I'll post a pyo file later on for replacement.

@remfer:
if you can log onto the box using putty / telnet.
run those commands.
 INIT 4
 enigma2 > /tmp/debug.log 2>&1

when you've played the movie (that doesn't play)... hit ctrl+c in putty to stop

can you copy the debug.log file (before the restart, otherwise its wiped from tmp) and post here (zipped)

INIT 3 (or reboot) to restart E2

thanks

Hi,
Attached a new version of the ServiceInfo.pyo.
can you unzip and copy the file into the /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Components/Converter directory  (rename existing file or overwrite) and restart.

Let me know if this fixes the skin display issue.

/Daz

I've been using a 5.3 from April 15 on [1]. I backed up minutes ago, then installed your webif 20161228 test image on [0]. At the prompts I restored settings backup and TSpanel. It restarted normally to its normal ABC startup service 110 on 4120V@99W. On service change I noticed the absence of content in the info panel before I rebooted with the comment 9 .pyo file installed, done after trying to use the absent mc to install it and then running ipkg install mc. I played a bit over halfway through a 29 minute 2033MB Big Bang recording from GDMX earlier today, then the screen went black, sound disappeared and there was no response to the remote. Trying to telnet to it to see what's going on failed with no route to host. Front panel display showed +7:47. Power button on remote succeeded to boot to normal startup channel. It's playing GDMX@99W and CBS@97W normally now. RAM total 241236, free 104124.

Edit: made a fresh GDMX recording while Telnet connected. When done I played it back for maybe 20 of 27 minutes, then it locked up UI/remote, and gave no more response from Telnet login, so had to hold down the power button again to regain use.

Thanks for taking the time looking at it. I just noticed some spinner are back with the new pyo. Sorry for that. Had made a new build and copied the file out. Need to post another changed file me thinks.

Re the lockup. I only tried short recordings. I wonder whether Thais behaviour is present in the vanilla v5.3 builds from end December and not linked to my test build. Any chance you could try that?

Could you download the current vanilla openatv 5.3 from the offical site and see if playing a recording stops and blocks the same way. Is it an oatv image issue or an issue with my changes. It would be great to get enigma log (see steps posted above for remfer).

INIT command not found but ran the rest of the test.  Here's the log file.

thanke rempfer.

actually its init 4 (lower case. -my bad)

in your case you ran two sessions of enigm2 and the debug one didn't actually play the media file (and didn't therefore log anything for the media playback).

could you redo the test please.

init 4 (to stop E2)
enigma2 > /tmp/debug.log 2>&1
init 3 (to restart after logging end)
