Hi. Now I've gone past 5.1 and built my own 5.3 image without spinner on playing media files. I do think that this issue may be isolated to myself and maybe a few others caused by a deteriorating azbox. Otherwise I would have expected way more posts by ME owners conplaing about spinner that might be a as short as a coupe of seconds or many minutes as soon as media player starts playing a movie. For me this is caused by any calls to /proc/ during media play. I can reproduce this at will.
I have modified a couple of files in the process (based on openatv) as HDMU never had spinners in same files. (There has been a commit in openpli code that when merged over to HDMU will cause spinners for me as well.

Long story short. I'd like to hear from anyone who has similar problems. Maybe it's more prevalent of an issue and ppl just got on with it.

P.s. Happy Holidays and sorry for the long post.

I really have no idea what you mean when you say spinner. I am lost from that point? So, if what I write here isn't anything to do with what you're saying, I appologize!
If you mean the spinning circle that appears on my upper left screen when you start to play a movie through TSMedia. Sometimes it doesn't appear at all, sometimes it is on only breifly, sometimes it will go on an off, and sometimes it will stay all the way through the movie, etc.. etc... etc....
Well I've always thought it was a Bandwidth problem, although I'm clueless as to the real problem/reason. But, I can tolerate the circle for a movie, what I can't tolerate is the info bar won't disappear while that circle persist. I've changed the default time for my info bar from 5 seconds to 1, and usually the info bar disappears before the circle appears, but not always? If the circle goes away, so does the info bar. Also, when this happens I am unable to Exit Out. So I have to Reboot....
If you're talking about from movies from your HDD, well I don't Record with my ME, nor do I use the ME to watch recordings from other devices on my network. I use other more convenient devices to do that. This may or may not be a simular problem, but I think of it more of a nuisance than a problem?
Good Luck!

Al

Hi. Yes I am referring to the spinning circle in the top left corner. Yes, when you see this the box isn't responding to remote or menu bar won't disappear. It's not just movies from hard disk , but any streaming of media that is not satellite (or terrestrial) TV.
Yes it is a nuisance generally, but when you box is blocked for 20min , no fast forward or pause, then it's really annoying.

I have the same problem with both OpenATV5 and OpenESI3.  The problem with playing media files is so severe that I have to boot to OpenRSI3 to be able to play and navigate through video files.  I wish there were a better media file player plug-in available.  So, like dazulrich, I find the media player unbearably bad.

Have you tried HDMU image ? This should work without spinner (up until image 12/12/16). Haven't tried the latest one from yesterday- it has a change that might introduce spinner.

Just tried both.  The media player in the latest one does seem to have a bit of this "spinner" problem, but not as bad as OpenATV and OpenESI.  However HDMU 3.5 does not seem to have a blind scan feature so that makes it less useful to me.  (EDIT:  The blind scanner in OpenATV and OpenESI isn't terribly reliable, but it's present and works sometimes which is handy.)

If you succeed in getting the problem fixed in your OpenATV 5.x I would like to try your method to fix my installation here.

Thanks.

When I get some time after the madness of the next few days, I'll upload a current 5.3 oatv build with my changes in it. So you can have a test. And hopefully we get it into the official builds later on.

That would be awesome, thanks!

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
