Special Thanks to Hockeynut and Sideswiper for their extensive testing of the SF4008 Octagon 4K Satellite Receiver and Thanks to all of you who purchased all of our inventory on our first Order of these units.

Besides doing 4K, these receivers have also been able to lock and play some ACM/VCM signals.

Will appreciate input, comments and suggestions about the receiver and best or favorite versions of firmware to use with this model.

Rick

The channels in the Arsat 2 mux are HEVC.
It's not 4K, but someone with the Octagon might check them out.

Good to go with the Octagon for the Arsat 2 mux.

Played around with many images Rick and have found Open8eight to be the nicest with really no quirks I can think of.Moved a motor fine.Scanned in ACM/VCM chs no problem.Plays everything I have tried for 4k ITC ch`s.etc.etc...Openvix being the least desirable and OpenATV falling somewhere in the middle. This is with my setup here so results may vary for others.

Hey Hockeyboy, the mux you're getting on Arsat 2 is not 4:2:2 is it?  I'm still a little foggy on the differences between MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, and H.265 and how they relate to 4:2:2.  Seems like receiver and broadcast technology is changing faster all the time.

VLC says it's 4:2:0 H.265 HEVC.

However, VLC won't play it.  Just a splotchy frozen pink screen.

Well Thanks Rick but All Credit goes to our man HN he has spent a lot of time testing this box out & if it was not for him i probably would of bought the DM 900 or the Vu 4k but once HN told me about the SF 4008 it was a No Brainer on which box to buy. Sure there are still some bugs that need fixing & other options that would be great but those things take time & the more that buy this box the more the Octagon team should try to fill or Wants & Needs JMO

Got mine today (thanks Rick!) - nice unit, very nice user interface.  Setup is pretty much the same as other openATV boxes.

If there's hardware blindscan on board, great ... but it's not in the "Service Searching" menu and I'm not spotting it anywhere else - Rick?

regarding blind scan - a little web research indicates they're working on IPTV capabilities now, blind scan software is "next".

No luck with one of the T2-MI channels on 40.5w (3887L/3660).  My eastern C-band dish is kinda compromised (Hockeynut knows) and needs to be re-peaked, but I have a solid lock there - and one service with no name scans in (after a LONG time) but won't play.  Can't seem to lock any of the others with the state that dish is in.

There are 2 programs that I use for Enigma2 with my AZBoxME and my IceCrypt3750 and my WETEK (microSD/OpenATV 5.0) and now with the Octagon
Dreamset
DreamboxEdit

Edit:

Also in Windows, you can look inside as to what makes it tick?
If you are on a network?
click on start button and enter this in the Search box:

\\sf4008\root\

Things can be changed/added to
USE
at your own RISK....!!!!!!

I suppose it could depend on the tv
In case it doesn't matter with tv, I have these settings
Go to:
Settings
Video
Basic settings
Mode = 2160p30
Refresh rate = multi

These work for me
Seems like the Mode = 2160 didn't work for me either
GOOD LUCK !!!

Using same settings as voomvoom. Here is a screenshot from NASA UHD on Galaxy 13.
3920 V 28068.In center of screenshot you can see the Octagon is outputting 2160.Also using DreamBox Edit to do any Ch editing.Downloaded the My Dream Vu+ tool box and it has Dream Box edit along with many other programs which work fine for the Octagon.

I was going to provide the same link as dcalebaugh in regards to 4K/UHD HDMI cable.  Your cable is probably not the problem unless it is over 50 feet long.

It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
