Here are some e mails that I have sent to Rick concerning some problems I have been having trying to get terrestrial channels scanned and entered into the Linkbox along with the satellite channels. If anyone has any positive input it would be appreciated.

#1.
I am attempting to hook up the terrestrial antenna on the Linkbox 9000i Local. I have the antenna installed in the proper hook up on the back of the receiver.  This is where I am lost, the manual, which is very vague says to "select a specific media by using the <  > keys between terrestrial or cable." I can not find this function in the on the screen menu anywhere.

The menu ask:

1. Satellite Setup or Terrestrial Setup. I hit terrestrial.
2. It then asks me to choose auto scan or manual search.
3. I have hit auto and manual countless times but I do not see anything that shows to pick terrestrial or cable.
4. When I hit auto it goes into the auto scan screen that looks like the satellite scan screen but it does not do anything. It does not seem to be scanning.
5. When I go to manual it shows channel numbers and what looks like an FR list with KHz after each one, again when I pick an FR and hit scan nothing happens.
6, Also, at the top of the FR list there is something that looks like this:  <- - - - - - - - - > I don't know what this is and I have no idea what to do with it. I have pressed every button on the remote without any results.

Do you have any idea what I am missing here? Please advise.

#2.
Sounds as though you are doing everything correctly.

When I had this happen before, I have always had to do a factory default and then try the Terrestrial scan again and use Auto and it should find the channels and add them just like doing a satellite scan.

If you like your current channel list, then you can do a back up of it with a USB stick and then reload it after you do the factory default.

If you need instructions for doing the back up, let me know and I will type that up for you.

Enjoy the late afternoon race today.

Thanks,

Rick

#3. No, I am fine with the USB, I use it all of the time when I scanned a bunch of stuff and want to get rid of it.

I will follow your instructions to a tee.

#4.
I did the factory default , went to the auto screen, and hit search. It scanned so fast that I couldn't tell what was going on. I mean as soon as I hit OK it zipped over to 100% and showed "no programs found, yes." I hit yes and the menu goes back to the normal screen, then when I scan again as I told you in the original message nothing happens. I have done numerous factory defaults and when I go back to do a re scan that "no programs found, yes" message is still up, I hit yes and it disappears and then search again and nothing happens.

To make sure that I am getting a signal I hooked the antenna up to the 55 inch LG that has the built in digital receiver and every channel came in strong. So, for some reason the Linkbox is not reading the signal. Also should I have to do a factory default every time I want to scan?

Thanks,
Jim

#5.
Rick, here is what I have figured out.

I am under the impression that you can not have satellite channels and terrestrial channels stored at the same time. I deleted the satellite channels and the terrestrial channels came in fine, when I deleted the terrestrial channels, reloaded the satellite channels the terrestrial channels would not scan in. If this is true, it defeats the purpose of why I wanted the OTA channels on the Linkbox. I am using a digital antenna on the main TV, the LG. All of the OTA channels come in fine. I am using rabbit ears and digital receiver boxes for the TVs in the basement, bedroom and garage. They were coming in fine. Two of the OTA channels had a tower malfunction and are broadcasting at a very weak signal. It is unknown when this will be corrected. The LG will pick them up with no problem. The digital boxes will not touch the two channels. I thought maybe if the two weak OTA channels came in on the Linkbox, which they did, I could send them to the other TVs. But, I also would like to have the satellite channels along with the OTAs so I could switch back and forth. I thought the OTA channels would be entered on the satellite channel list and I would be able to go straight to them. Unless I am missing something that is not going to work.

#6 UPDATE:

If I enter the terrestrial channels and then do a blind scan on the satellite scan it will enter the satellite channels on the same channel list.  If I enter the satellite channels via USB then try a manual terrestrial scan it shows a 98% signal for one of our local OTAs but when I scan it tells me " no program found."

When I have the OTAs scanned it on the channel list and try a manual satellite scan it will give a strong signal on the satellite FR but when I scan it the OTAs come in and are doubled on the list.

No, the terrestrial channel list does not show with the satellite list on the channels page.

When the terrestrial channels are by themselves it does show an "All Channel" list and a "Terrestrial" list.

Jim, on mine it looks like this <-----ALL-----> or this <-----FTA----->
It's the Scan option, if you don't see these, something must be wrong?
You use the < button or > button to change between them

I have tried that countless times Al and nothing happens. It does not say ALL or FTA, it's just those blank dashes. It does say ALL or FTA when I hit the scan button and it wants to know wither I want ALL of FTA. It doesn't matter which one I choose when I do the scan the % meter goes at fast pace. I mean it zips so fast I can' t see it, straight across to 100% and it shows 'no program found, Yes."

Jim,

I sent you an e-mail, asking for what version of firmware you are running.

I will give you a call a bit later today and let's go through this together.

Thanks,

Rick

Jim,

I took a brand new 9000i Local Linkbox receiver running software Version 146 and did the following steps...

Main Menu

Installation

Terrestrial Setup

Auto Scan:  Search Option to All and Scan Channel to TV + Radio and Highlight and HIT Search

The Auto Scan will start and the screen looks like the Satellite Search Screen.  With my Local Antenna Hooked Up, I got 40 OTA ATSC Channels.

Now I exit the Menu and one of the channels plays.

I Hit OK on Remote to bring up the Channel List.

The first one says, All Satellite and the Terrestrial Channels are Listed in the All Satellite List.  Then Hit the Right or Left Arrow and it displays Terrestrial List Only channels.

Now I took my USB Stick that has my Satellite Channels saved on it.

Placed it in the Rear USB Port.

Then go to Main Menu.

Channels

Channel Data - USB

Upgrade File and select the File that you want to Load and set Upgrade Mode to ch data and Highlight Start and Hit OK.

My saved Satellite Channels have not been loaded and if I Exit all Menus and then Hit OK to bring up my Channel Lists.

I know have All Satellite, Terrestrial, The Individual Satellite Names that have channels and HD Ch Package.

I then did a Channel Backup to my USB, which will now include my OTA ATSC channels.

Main Menu

Channels

Channel Data - USB

Set Upgrade Mode to Upload (Channel Data Backup) and Highlighted Start and Hit OK.

Receiver makes up it's own name for the new file which includes todays date and is saved to the USB Stick.

I then deleted several different channels and even complete Satellites and deleted some of the Terrestrial channels.

Now I reloaded my saved channel list which includes the Terrestrial Channels.

Main Menu

Channels

Channel Data - USB

Upgrade File, I select the New File that I had just backed up.

Upgrade Mode set to ch data

Highlight Start and Hit OK.

Channel List loaded and receiver rebooted and now all of my channels are back, both Satellite and Terrestrial.

I will give you a call and maybe you can follow these steps while on the phone.

Thanks,

Rick

With assistance from Rick we got part of this problem figured out. I now have my local OTAs stored with my satellite channels. But the Linkbox still will not let me scan the terrestrial channels with the satellite channels. stored. I had to delete the satellite channel list, scan in the terrestrials then mannualy reload the satellites to list. This was very time consuming. Thanks Rick
