Thanks Mac.... This is very frustrating...I have had to redo this project like 5 or 6 times in my not so spare time.....first unbuntu disk image was corrupt and would not build drivers right (after long time working with it)....second time hard drive died right when getting ready to test card......third time server I was running it on lost usb port functionality and could not get it back in unbuntu...but windows is fine????...fourth time this time lost internet connectivity when started to test. Craziest thing I have ever seen and I have worked with computers since TI basic and radio shack computers to apple IIe...programming etc.

So each time I have loaded unbuntu to a completely separate hard drive.

Tested to make sure everything was good with base install of unbuntu.

loaded in updatelee's kernel....had a few failure there...checked to make sure it was good. followed directions from post # 54

Applied the patch from post 65. (it worked completely I think the first time....but I had already loaded tbs drivers from their site) this time got error above. The .h file didnt get imported by the patch for some reason.

Have tried testing with tune-s2 app...unsuccessful. Card is good....I boot back to win 10 or win 7 and card works great in smartdvb.

Really and honestly it shouldnt be that hard to come up with the 3-5 files/sw/fw that this card needs to function in a linux environment...but it is for some reason...most of it is on my shoulders because of my lack of previous use of linux. Windows, career, kids etc  made me stop working with languages after turbo pascal in about 93. So blame is on me...but I do believe that this one particular card has issues...it takes a 5923.fw...it's instructions are under 5921 card....there is a build for 5922se and for 5923.....what a mess.
That is why I am very thankful for you guys and your continued hep and patience..right now I would love to just get this to work on the computer in linux.... forget even the azme or minime. [smile]

So right now I have everything built but the patch...I used the tbs download and recompiled...the computer recognizes the card etc...as 5923...but cant get it to tune with tune-s2.....and no internet unless I run a new cable....again usb issue (different computer too [smile]  [wink]   two totally different usb cards fail to load now..load fine in windows....and had done fine in linux...linksys.

SO that is where I am...going back down to basement to work some more on it.

I really believe in this project for the following reason:

The perfect or close to receiver could be had .....4:2:2...E2...dual tuner...16apsk/32 apsk ccm.  That would be just a great receiver. My az minime with this card.

My prof already makes my azme a dual tuner and makes it so nice.

Many thanks to you all !!!!

If TBS would chose to support the media_build system and submit their drivers to the kernel this would be much easier.   When they force binary blobs it makes compiling for a different architecture quite a difficult task.  In the end someone reverse engineers the blob to make the devices work, so I don't understand why they keep up with the blobs.  Kind of like kicking their customers in the nads as thanks for buying their products.

trying the patch showed this

leon@leon-p6803w:~/v4l-updatelee$ patch -p1 <tbs5922se.patch
patching file drivers/media/dvb-frontends/tas2101.c
patching file drivers/media/dvb-frontends/tas2101.h
patching file drivers/media/dvb-frontends/tas2101_priv.h
patching file drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/Kconfig
patching file drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/Makefile
patching file drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/tbs-qbox22.c

is that all of the files?

is it supossed to be a qbox22? is there supposed to be an .h file?

Thanks.

yeap, sounds familiar. Compiled fine for me when I tried it last fall.
Of course no way to test here and haven't looked at it since.

if you are using latest v4l-updatelee tree, you probably need to edit the patch for Kconfig & Makefile.
As that patch was created several kernel versions ago.
If you study the patches, you can probably just edit the files manually.

I tried and got the same error as mountaineer
1)Applied the patches
2)moved the dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5923.fw to /lib/firmware    txt dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5923.fw.txt (8.00 KB, 9 views)
after I renamed it
3)make menuconf  (selected 5922se)
4)sudo make modules

After that error I figure what the heck.
make clean
make distclean
And start over,, So I'm waiting on all the modules but, I don't think this is going to work?
If it errors again I'll put dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5922.fw  to  /lib/firmware

This is what I get with my TBS5922 (not SE)Screenshot from 2016-01-17 19:20:24.png in dmesg. Isn't the new driver suppose to handle either of them.

My 5922 works with updateDVB  although spectrum scan needs some work.

my kernel is 4.4.0-rc2+

@Majortom Thanks!  looking,at it looks like I need
v4l-updatelee/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/tbs5922se.c  and the tbs5922se.h
to make it past this error I think. Which I can't find.

Code:

  LD [M]  drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb-tbsqbox22.o
make[4]: *** No rule to make target 'drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/tbs5922se.o', needed by 'drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/dvb-usb-tbs5922se.o'.  Stop.

Maybe Andys way will work instead of the "se" I guess

@Andy what did you "select" in menuconf

Edit:
I found the 5922se.c and 5922se.h  Here, I'll try and toss them in, if that will work?

Huhh??tbs 5922SE doesn't use stv09xx devices at all.
It uses tas2101 frontend, etc.
Your device is 6983, not 5922or 5922se.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
