I'd be willing to bet both trees use the same driver Qbox22. Would have to test it though.
Of course not running out to get them both though. Point is they are both open source so why screw around with TBS blobs?

Being a usb device, might just need to find the right firmware, dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5923.fw and copy it to /lib/firmware
I see a dvb-usb-tbsqbox-id5922.fw in UDL's now. In theory should be able to incorporate jhalves' 5923 (5922se) in to UDL's tree I am thinkin.

I see Rick is selling the 5922. Does anyone know if that is the 5922 or 5922se? What's the difference if any?
They seem to have the exact same chips in hardware.

Edit: downloaded jhalves' tree,and he does have a specific config for the 5922se, so must be enough differences to have another driver module. Gonna see if I can pull that in to UDL's tree and compile it. Of course won't have any way to test it though.

cool thanks junkie.I can see that now (diff demod version) on that wiki page.
UDL tree s/be compiling shortly after pulling in the additions / changes and selecting it in menuconfig.

Did you pull 5922se into UDL's tree?  That would be handy.

I'm looking through my buildroot system and I see source for kernel 3.9.2 with some mips related patches.  I'm guessing that I used that once upon a time to build something for someone's AZbox.  Wonder if AZ's still use the same kernel?  

Adding drivers into that involves what?  Copying the source and header files obviously. The you have to edit Kconfig and Makefiles? Anything else?

Edit: Looked back in the commit history and I see the patch to add the drivers in.  Seems simple enough.  Don't see 5923 firmware.  Assume you can get it out of the TBS driver package. Found firmware here... https://github.com/beam/linux-tbs-drivers

Assuming one can build the modules and copy them to the AZbox would you have to be able to run depmod on the AZbox before they would load?

Not having an AZ or the image file of it's OS mostly just a guessing game for me I'm afraid. 

Think all we did last time was patch an stv0900 module.  Just copied the patched one in over the original so no depmod was needed.

yeah, had to adjust a couple other files also...
tas2101.c,tas2101.h and tas2101_priv.h
Seems like it's compiling without any complaints thus far...
Unsure if it'll work though obviously with nothing to test.
UDL has spectrum scan on his tas2101.c module.
We can add the firmware file to the tree easy enough
if anyone has a means to test it.

Sorry guys for being gone. I wish I understood enough linux to be of help. The az is running Openatv 4.2 on 3.92 kernel. I have the 5923 FW loaded in. Again thanks for your help I owe you guys. I'll load any file you get into my az and see what happens.

Looks like it compiled and installed in to /lib/modules/.. ok
Mountaineer,  if you can get UDL's kernel going on your PC, I will make a patch for you...
so you can test it out...see if it works at all.

Can you change the .ko to .txt and upload them on here. I have no idea the commands to use udl's tree or even really what a tree is...other than maybe uncompiled code.This is great I cant thank you enough.

just open up a command shell, then go here, and follow the instructions.

Ok I got it. The computer that I compiled it on can now see the TBS 5922SE. Everything seemed to load. Now i just need to cross compile it?

I followed your post above and did everything the page said to do. All went well..I dont know if that is "compiling" or not.

I then rebooted and typed "tail -f /var/log/kern.log"

and it showed the 5922SE as being attached and info etc. I didnt know what to make of most of it...but it seemed to be OK.

says?  I don't think majortom actually pushed the 5922se driver into the repo yet, at least I don't see the commit. So interesting the device is working.  You can tune with it?  Voltage 13/18V working?

exactly... yeah if you have rebooted already, show us what uname -a says.
That will tell us what kernel you are running.

Gotcha... good job there so far...
if ya type
lsmod
in the shell that will print out a list of all kernel modules (drivers) currently loaded.
Doesn't matter if ya don't understand it yet, as we will be able to make sense of it for you.
We just wanna see where you stand...

PS - The nice thing here is you can always boot on an old kernel. So if something we're doing doesn't work out, 
can always boot the previous kernel (or even older).

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
