First off you have to ask yourself what do you use your receiver for mainly.  If it's just for satellite feeds then stick with the original firmware.

If your into watching multimedia files and streaming then E2 is the way to go.  The multimedia players and performance has become very stable and nice in some of the latest E2 images.  With the original firmware any avi file over 2GB will stop at that point but with E2 it will play all the way.  In E2 it will play just about any multimedia format you can imagine.

There are a ton of plugins in E2 that can display the weather, google maps , or even facebook just to name a few.  There are so many plugins there is bound to find a few that you'd like.

There is continued development for E2 images on the AZBox and most notably OpenATV images.  It's quite a steep learning curve for E2 as you'd have to learn how it works as it is completely different than the original firmware.  The images are made in Europe and geared to those users.

Installation from original to E2 firmware isn't simple but not extremely hard.  Once you convert to E2 updating to other E2 firmware is easy.  On certain images you can update right from the Internet right through the firmware. You would need an Internet connection on the receiver obviously.

I can only comment on its performance on the ME as I haven't installed it on my Elite or Premium Plus.  From what I've read it seems like channel changing is much faster using OpenATV on the older AZBoxs.

On the satellite side you can not manually do anything as far as channel editing/deleting/manually entering PIDs/ or adding/editing satellite etc.  All those things have to be done with an editor.  Also it puts all channels on a satellite in alphabetical order.

In OpenATV C-Band blindscan was introduced and it works extremely well.  Ku blindscan works but you'd have to set your LNB in the menu to 10600 and all transponders will be off by 150 MHz lower.

Dolby 5.1 and DTS audio playback work on satellite channels and multimedia files that are encoded with those formats.  A definite plus for E2.

Again it all depends what you use your receiver for mainly and are some of the features E2 has over the originalFW of interest to you.

There are so many features in E2 its hard to list them all.

My favorite E2 image is Open ATV on the ME.  I hardly use any other receivers with exception to my Vantage 1100 and Manhattan and mostly just for their blindscan.

Enigma 2 was adapted from the same firmware used on the Dreambox's.  The main advantage for the AZBOX is it will do 4:2:2.

I would go for it on your Elite and see how you like it.  I suggest OpenATV as its the best one out there with the most support also.

Your Welcome,

Emil

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
