I have a problem with satellites disappearing from my AZBox.  When I press the Home key on the remote and select Settings, TV Channel, and Satellite Setup, all of the satellites to the east of G16 are missing.

When I hit the OK key on the remote and the satellite listing comes up, these satellites are listed, but not in their original order.  When I select one of them, all of the saved broadcasts were visible, but they are grayed and not selectable.

Does anyone understand what happened here?  What's the fix?

Yeah, you need to enter in the sats one by one as i do or there is a file you can download that people here have. Your redeiver got corrupted.

Thanks for your response.

How can a receiver get corrupted?

How can I access this file?

It happens to mine if I try to make too many configuration edits without doing enough normal service/sat switching or rebooting, so I limit how many I change at a time before returning to a previously watched service on a different sat from where changes were made, and then rebooting, before making more changes.

One thing to avoid is editing channel names from the service select menu. Instead, make such changes in the advanced scan->PID edit menu in Setup->TV Channel.

Thanks.

What is your definition of configuration edit?

I have had some problems changing channel names from the service select menu.  I would change them and then the change would disappear the next time the receiver was on.

I typically do not leave the receiver on all the time, just when I'm using it.  Normally, I turn the unit off with the switch on the back, without selecting the shutdown mode from the remote.  Do you think this action would corrupt the memory?

Do you know if there is a memory upgrade or firmware update available that would eliminate this corruption problem?  I did a factory reset of my unit a couple of weeks ago and starting blind scanning the different birds.  G19 then did the same thing - the channels turned gray on the menu and were not selectable.

Any kind of change other than volume, audio subchannel select, service switch, transponder switch satellite switch, or timer edit - IOW, things one changes infrequently.

Exactly what I said don't do.

I wouldn't do it immediately after making an edit. Instead, switch channels or sats first. I don't turn mine off in back very often, usually only when we have an extended power outage outlasting its UPS.

Nothing that would keep the original feature set, especially blind scanning.

After any scan, do some switching before rebooting. And, don't change very much before switching and rebooting. IOW, it's less likely to get corrupted if it only needs to make small edits at a time to the DB.

Thanks again.  I will follow your recommendations and see what happens.

How did you discover this procedure/workaround?

Mine does the same thing. I usually select "SHUTDOWN" from the exit menu and when it says to shut it down, I turn the switch on the back off. I started doing this because the STB was locking up all the time. It wouldn't accept commands from the remote or buttons on the STB and wouldn't display any video. It has good air circulation and is kept clean. The gray channels issue started even before I began turning the switch off on the back. It seems that it looses the sat positions because it will list the sat names when enter is pushed, but the longitudes are missing. Just as with yours, they aren't in the antenna setup, so you can't rescan the XPDRs. I've tried JD's suggestions and sometimes it goes for a while without graying, sometimes it doesn't. I even tried deleting as much data that I don't use as possible, but it didn't help. It did allow better results on blind scans as it seems to get to a point where it won't acquire any more XPDRs until after I deleted some.

if you are using firmware OpenSAT,and every time you add more channels from other satellites, there comes a time when the firmware is corrupted. You have to reinstall
firmware and back to scan channel list all sat.

This is prime example of why once you have built a solid sat ch list to back it up by using the ACC program incase of any corruption then just a simple reinstall is all that is needed from the saved backup but now it is a case of reinstalling firmware and starting over and which even the newest fw of 5402 does not have the most up to date sats..

Best bet is get in touch with Rick for the AZ tools and once you start fresh back it up...Use Maz or AZEdit to edit ch`s and sats then ACC to save to ur puter for future incase of a corruption like this.

AZ can be a pain but once ya figure these few steps out it is a breeze from being corrupted...

Good luck.
