If you're not comfortable rewiring the fan connector yourself, there are adapters available online. Typically the third wire is for speed monitoring and not required. Color code's normally red - 5/12 VDC, black - ground, yellow - speed sensing.

I have not installed the fan yet. It comes with three wires and the connector is not the same size as the one in the AZBox. I should try and install it by sunday. I'll keep you informed. In the meantime I ordered two more fans (Different models) from Chinese ebay sellers. Both will come with two wires.

I am trying to remove the original fan from my AZBox +. The connector seems to be awfully hard to pull out. Is there a trick that I should know?

Thanks

laudou...Yeah it is a bit tight coming off the mb...But why don't you just leave it plugged in and cut the wires and solder.

That's exactly what I eventually did. Let me tell you that this new fan is doing the job quite well. The box remains cool. I just realized that the fan probably quit working years ago as my AzBox  destroyed three hard drives in about 2 years. When the hard drive died it was burning hot and the receiver was acting up. The new fan has exactly the same specs as the original one which was a Oritek, DC Brushless, Model R054010SL, 5 Volt DC, 0.13 Amp. As for the noise level, it is not that bad. I'd say it compares with the original fan.

Thanks for your help.

Here is where I ordered the fan from. http://smart-prototyping.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=220" Unfortunately, I ordered the cheaper model with plain bearings because I found out after ordering that there were two models available. I might add that shipping to Canada was surprisingly fast.

This is one of the other fans I ordered lately: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=321125183626&ssPageName=ADME:LC:CA:3160

Thanks again

I just replaced my dead premium plus fan with this one from mouser.com (part# 472-1604KL01WB50B00) and it is way too loud.

Here are the specs on this new fan:
noise: 29dBA
speed: 6500 RPM
volume:6 CFM.

With factory firmware on the Azbox P+, is everyone else's fans running at 100% all the time? If so, I need to buy another quieter fan.

Yeah when the AZ is on there is no variable speed so its at 100%.Is what it is..

That was my plan to buy a quieter ( ball bearing ) fan but after 2nd thought it is pretty easy to tell if it goes bad again.Rather than risking damage to the AZ or the Hard Drive. Is kinda annoying but I have gotten somewhat use to it.

Trying to come up with an alternative to splicing 26 gauge (or smaller?) leads in order to install a fan with only tinned leads I looked through Allied and Mouser catalogs for over an hour. It looks like one of 571-665059571-1044816 or 571-1-104480-6 from Mouser could probably be crimped onto the leads and plugged onto the pins in the fan power socket on the board. A little shrink tube around one or the other would avoid the possibility of shorting. Next time I need to order from Mouser I'll order a few of these to see if any fit. Likely I'll order a 562-FAD1-04010BBMW11 4800 RPM fan at the same time. Someone here in actual need of a fan might want to give it a go before I get a round tuit for this exploration.

BTW, the freshly cleaned 5VDC Oritek CF-05410B brushless fan in my 6 year old HD+ is marked as 0.20A. While open for cleaning I put a drop of red nail polish on the red wire's side of the socket. [smile]
