Uncle Frank....

Ah, great minds - I did think of that but I thought the receiver would need the time updates from the internet constantly to make the time shift stuff work. If not then the next best alternative for me is a flash drive to the USB port. The pdf file mentions it but goes on to only explain the PC method. So.... does the usb/flash drive method of updating firmware work?

Thanks to Emil and others for insight and information.

Emil I have only been running Aztrino 1.6and have been very disappointed.  I want to try RTI Enigma 2 but I am unsure where to get it and how to install it. Can you give me a clue on how to get this FW installed?

My Seagate external HDD is doing a stellar job so far.

First thanks EmilNJ for the very informative review. I am tempted but cannot spend the money at this time. My question is about the CBS sports (football) backhauls that only have Dolby E. My Ultra does not like feeds with no audio PID. Did you have a chance to try the Me out on one of these feeds? Thanks

I have not tried any CBS backhauls with Dolby E but the CBS fronthauls will scan in the Dolby E APID that the older AzBox's won't.  The Me will play the fronthauls fine when the Dolby E APID is defaulted as it's the first one in the list after a scan.  There also is the two APIDs that play audio fine on the fronthauls.

Your Welcome on the review and I appreciate your nice comment.

Emil

Where is the website located?

http://satellites-xml.eu/

Selct the satellites you want for your list by checking them off and you can do it by region.  You can also split satellites for C & Ku band.  Just save the list as a .XML file.

Emil,,

The pdf that shows how to load firmware indicates that you could do it with a flash drive in the usb port. Have you tried this method?  Running a cable from my router to the receiver would not be impossible, but very difficult.

Dave

I hadn't updated the firmware by using a USB drive and I'm not sure if you can.  That's not to say it isn't possible.

I have installed a few plugins/patches with the USB in the RTI E2 firmware though.

I've only ever used the home network option but as you say the pdf does mention its possible.

A search round a few forums mentions that you have to also edit the name of the file on the usb so it installs into the right boot and it mentions both files but all the firmware I've seen only gives you one file.

I don't use AZtrino much unclefrank as it is very basic and almost useless for FTA.  It does a few thing well like record and plays back media files very nicely.

The latest RTI E2 Version 1.8 for the Me can be found at the official RTI E2 site at the link below.  You will need to register to be able to download the firmware.

You load their firmware the same way as AZtrino by putting the receiver in recovery mode by holding the volume plus button when rebooting.  Once you see the Me's IP address on the front display open your web browser and type the IP address there and load the image on the partition of your choice.

Emil how is the blindscan on RTI v1.8 working for you?

Blind Scan doesn't work at all for me on any Image for the Me basically.  It doesn't work for C-Band at all and only a few lower frequencies on Ku.  It's pretty much useless for NA right now.  In Europe its been reported to not work on higher frequencies for Ku but for their lower bands.

I installed RTI E2 v1.8 and have no success blindscanning either. Definitely a big improvement over Aztrino. You can see at this point that these are geared towards the European market. My Openbox is still my favorite STB and great value for the features packed into this box. How are the other boxes like the Premium+ for blindscan?

I see in your signature you have acquired an AZPlus frank!
The blindscan is a bit slow but it is no big deal I just use my Pansats for blindscanning and when I find something 4:2:2 I just set the parameters in the AZ to blindscan the feed in quickly.

Ex: If a feed is posted with an SR of 3780 I just set the minimum to 3775 Mhz and the max to 3785 Mhz with a scan step of 1000 Khz.Never do I scan an entire sat with the Plus...Way to time consuming!

Thanks for posting Hockeynut. Yeah I always wanted a Prem+, I was afraid they would be discontinued and I'd never be able to get one. No big deal- I will follow your advice and enter the parameters for certain frequencies. It was never my intention to use the Prem+ or the Me as a blindscanning STB, I just wanted to get 4:2:2 broadcasts and have the ability to manually enter freq, SR and all the rest.

It's all your fault Hockeynut that I got hooked on the Azbox STB's.! All the screenshots you posted here in the forum showing all the capabilities of these receivers.  The menus had me drooling all over my keyboard! But honestly my only regret is that I never found an Elite as we had discussed before. I waited too long and they are now history and don't think Azbox will ever come out with a replacement for this box.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well. We all appreciate the efforts and energy of the Posters!
