After turning on my Elite, it finds no transmissions. The signal strength is 15% or less, with somewhere around zero quality.
I cleared memory and re-loaded the software several times. That would temporarily fix it.
Then I accidentally discovered that if I backup the receiver's software, the AZBOX miraculously begins functioning normally. Signal strength is back to 90 - 100%, with quality in the 40 - 90% ranges. The latter readings are normal. The AZBOX performs properly until the next power-on.
I originally guessed that it had a hardware problem. Now I am not sure.
Any suggestions/help would be very welcome.

What fimware are you using?  Also did you format the application area when you reinstalled that firmware?

I have used 5020 forever.
Yes, I formatted. Every time reload I format.
Thanks.

Good.  I would try the latest official firmware from Opensat which is 5311 and see what that does.

5400 and 5402 is not official Opensat firmware and has quite a few bugs in them so stay away from those.

Thank you.

Now that the annual Holiday rush is over, I am trying to install the new firmware. Interestingly the site indicated a 5311 download, but it is named 5308 when viewed via my computer. Hope that will do no harm.

That's a glitch, the previous firmware was 5308 and when they released the 5311, they somehow forgot to change the 5308 to 5311. So, it shows as 5308 but it's actually 5311.

Appreciate the info.
The 5311 acted like the 5020, except backing the firmware did not even temporarily fix. So that I could at least use it last night, I loaded the channels & satellite definitions from the 5020 configuration.
Voila! Everything is wonderful. I will document further "progress", as it happens.
One disadvantage noted: The 5311 is noticeably slower.

"wonderful" lasted two weeks. SSSooooo, I completely started re-initialized the AZBOX. After loading the 5311, I discovered that all the North American satellites were named properly (except SES2, which is still referred as AMC3). That was a plus. I began loading the channels and defining the usual transmission parameters. All went well, until I noticed that all renamed channels lost their definitions. That is no satellite, frequency, symbol rate, nothing! For example after scanning in a couple CBS transmissions and renaming them from a generic name to "CBS", the AZBOX forgot their parameters. They were useless.
So when using 5311, I am unable to rename channels and then use them?

Were you able to re-name the sats with the older firmware?  There was a thread about this issue more than a year ago, but it was with older firware.  I can't remember all the specifics, but it seemed like someone posted about a problem with re-naming sats, so I tried to rename a sat, and it seemed to work, however later, I noticed that all the parameters were missing for channels or transponders (can't remember) that were saved after the channel name change.  I reloaded the firmware, and tried again, and saw the same behavior.  So I 've just never re-named existing satellites since then.
I can't remember exactly, but it seems like the channels or transponders still worked, it was just that the parameters weren't displayed, however I might be wrong on that.  It also seemed like if a new sat was created, that it didn't happen, but I might be wrong on that too.
I do remember one other oddity, and that was that if I would delete the channel or transponder that had it's parameters missing, that then the one that was next to it in the list would be missing it's parameters, so it didn't seem to be fixable except by re-loading firmware.  I can't remember if loading an old good sat data file would fix it.  It's been a long time since I've touched the setup on my Azbox, so my memory is a bit foggy.

I have never renamed a satellite, so I do not know the effects. Firmware 5020 did not have the problems which you describe.
Do you use your AZBOX? If so which version is loaded?

In lieu of Internet, is it possible to use MAZ (AZBOX Editor) via USB stick?
If not how does one connect to the Internet? We have wi-fi. I know the type of encryption & password. I do not know the IP address of the AZBOX. I see an error msg something similar to "Connection fail. Please try again."
Thanks

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
