Reload firmware via USB thumbdrive. You don't need to boot up to do it that way. Tell it to reformat the application area the first time.

Mack the main ? is how this happen if it was working fine, and then you came back to it latter it could be more of a hardware problem like a Cap or 2. but if you caused it by loading FW or some other thing, like I did years back when I 1st got mine. now I found that some USB sticks would not be seen with the FW on it by the AZbox, Mack look here at this old post and it may help.

Good question. Yeah, the only time the rebooting thing ever happened to me, was once when I was trying to upgrade to a new firmware version, and I must have gotten a bad download of the firmware. I tried to go back to the old firmware, but that wouldn't take either, still rebooting. Finally I think that I went back to an even older firmware, which worked, then went back to the previous version. I think that was before I knew about the format application area thing, or perhaps that was when I learned about it. But it may take 2 or 3 reloads of the firmware to get things working. But Captain's right that it may well be hardware, particularly this time of year, when the unit might be overheating. I know my Azbox is running hotter than it has in the past.

it was working wednesday night when i turned it off to go bed. when i came home from work yesterday,it was stuck in boot mode. just keeps saying booting, never goes any farther than that
edited to say: that i have no light on my usb stick so it will not get past the booting stage yet. i have tried removing the battery and leaving it unplugged for almost 18 hours. i have it open and looking at the caps on the board and there are no signs of any leakage of the caps. the last firmware that was put in the machine was 5310. i know if i could get the usb stick to light up,i could get it to reload firmware, but,no luck as of 12:50 pm 7/14/12 __________________ Azbox premium plus,Amiko Alien 8240,Prof 7301,10ft perfect 10 dish ,corotor2+ norsat 8515 cband norsat 4606 .6 db Ku, 1 meter winegard dish on an DG380 motor, gigabyte G41M-ES2L m/b,ATi diamond radeon HD 4550 video,Q6600 cpu,4gig corsair extreme ddr 800 ( 2x2046 ) gigabyte spdif add-on dolby digital card, sony 600 watt surround sound system and vizio 37" 1080p lcd tv

what fixed my azbox with the same problem(stuck at booting, no usb activity), was a reflow of the entire (main)board.
it was quite a dangerous fix, and could of lead to a completely dead board, but somehow, it managed to completely fix it.
kinda like they had a bad batch of soldering at the mfg plant or something.
also unless you some specific tools for doing a targeted reflow(and exp doing so), you will void the warranty doing it, so explore that before trying a home-done reflow option.

thanks MotorMan the box has no warranty on it and i don't have a steady enough hand to do all the reflow of the solder on the board. __________________ Azbox premium plus,Amiko Alien 8240,Prof 7301,10ft perfect 10 dish ,corotor2+ norsat 8515 cband norsat 4606 .6 db Ku, 1 meter winegard dish on an DG380 motor, gigabyte G41M-ES2L m/b,ATi diamond radeon HD 4550 video,Q6600 cpu,4gig corsair extreme ddr 800 ( 2x2046 ) gigabyte spdif add-on dolby digital card, sony 600 watt surround sound system and vizio 37" 1080p lcd tv

mack a steady hand is not needed for a complete reflow. If your warranty is void already and you don't want to send it in for repair it might be worth a try. It worked for motorman. You can get a lot of info off the net but basically it involves removing the main board from the Elite, stripping it down of anything that can be removed including stickers and covering sensitive parts like caps and plastic headers with foil. For a DIY job at home preheat your oven to 385 degrees, take a cookie sheet and make some tin foils balls about 1" in diameter and place them on the sheet as spacers to place your mainboard on, solder side down. The suggested time in the oven is 8 minutes. It is then recommended to not move it before it cools as not to disturb the molten solder so off with the oven and open the door to allow it to cool about 30 minutes. The theory is that any fractures in the old solder will rejoin with this method. Here is a good write up http://voices.yahoo.com/how-reflow-laptop-motherboard-oven-6784790.html

well.i thought i was in the clear last night,i had managed to connect thru the yamon port and all was going well. after it finished,i inserted the usb stick with 5400 firmware on it. then formatted the area. during the loading,we had a power blink and now i'm back to stuck on booting and yamon is giving me this again:
xosPe0 serial#d96092a0c1d405db7c1d55d3a06f317b subid 0x50 xenv cs2 failed xenv cs3 failed ¡Ãpower supply: ok dram0 ok (8) zboot (1) failed
everything i can find now says to there's 2 solutions: 1. send back to azbox for repair ( could most likely buy new receiver for that charge ) 2. Jtag the receiver and rewrite the flash and i'm not sure how one would go about doing this.
thanks in advance __________________ Azbox premium plus,Amiko Alien 8240,Prof 7301,10ft perfect 10 dish ,corotor2+ norsat 8515 cband norsat 4606 .6 db Ku, 1 meter winegard dish on an DG380 motor,gigabyte G41M-ES2L m/b,ATi diamond radeon HD 4550 video,Q6600 cpu,4gig corsair extreme ddr 800 ( 2x2046 ) gigabyte spdif add-on dolby digital card,sony 600 watt surround sound system and vizio 37" 1080p lcd tv

i bought the recommended cable and downloaded the s/w to use, but,it plainly tells you that if you get what we both have gotten here in this post, that it will have to go back to azbox for repair. i can find no way at all to put my elite in jtag mode and there's just not that much info to guide us to where the jtag enable area is. i have pretty much given up on getting the elite back to normal and bought an azbox premium + HD. __________________ Azbox premium plus,Amiko Alien 8240,Prof 7301,10ft perfect 10 dish ,corotor2+ norsat 8515 cband norsat 4606 .6 db Ku, 1 meter winegard dish on an DG380 motor, gigabyte G41M-ES2L m/b,ATi diamond radeon HD 4550 video,Q6600 cpu,4gig corsair extreme ddr 800 ( 2x2046 ) gigabyte spdif add-on dolby digital card, sony 600 watt surround sound system and vizio 37" 1080p lcd tv

Documentation for smp863x is all over the net.
Unlike other AZBOX, the ELITE versions EJTAG port seems to be disabled.
Only Opensat can explain why, if this happens to premium/+ than can be recovered for the cost of five resistors and a pc with lpt port. But if this happens to a elite, than you have to spend much more money for repair. Pretty silly but that is the current state of affairs. Good luck getting an explanation from Opensat.

I have been scouring the interwebs all day and that is pretty much the consensus. No one can seem to get a working Jtaq flash on the Elite+.
There is a guy on Ebay in the UK that claims he can fix it.
I am waiting for a reply.
Figure it is worth a shot. Got nothing to lose at this point. |

| All he is gonna do is remove the flash with proper smd rework station and externally re-program the bootloader, than re-solder flash and load firmware via RS232. |
