This may have been covered already....

Why can't I purchase just the Premium Plus DVB-S2 tuner (I've seen them listed for about 59 euro) and put it into my Elite? Do they not all use the same firmware? Is the other hardware different enough that it would not be compatible?

Guys,

Does the premium plus receivers come with two DVB-S2 tuners from manufacture?

How sensitive is the tuner when comparing to the Vantage 1100HD?

Thanks in advance

Does anyone has a screen capture or photo of this Premium Plus? because i've been hearing a lot about an AzBox meant for the eye patch people down in SouthAmerica (primarily Brazil) that does DVB-S2 (called AzAmerica s900 HD), and was wondering if it's the same or is it a diff. kind of receiver marketed for them (in the past they've been releasing models to the eye patch guys intended for decrypting their pay tv):

Cheers

Mike

The Elite and Premium uses the same tuners but the Premium plus uses a completely different tuner.  They are not compatible with each other.

I own an Elite and a Vantage HD1100S so I can only comment of those two on tuner sensitivity.  The Vantage has a more sensitive tuner than the AZBOX Elite for sure.  Still the Elite still has a sensitive tuner compared to other receivers out there and I would rate it behind the Vantage as closest to any other I own.

The Premium Plus looks similar to the regular Premium in photos I have seen.

Standard configuration on the Premium Plus comes with 1 DVB-S2 tuner but you can purchase a second tuner for the several formats for overseas OTA use or for cable.  In addition you can get a second DVB-S2 tuner.  From what I read so far it still will only run 1 tuner at a time like the Elite and Premium.  Like I said from what I have read up on it so far so I am going from what others said which may not be 100%

Gregom,

When you get one let us know how it is and write us a report.  Rick may even sell them as he is a dealer for Vantage.  I twill ask him as I love my 1100S and am interested in what the VT-1 will offer.

Emil

Oh thanks for the explanation Emil, i guess the tuner has to be one certified or approved by the guys from AzBox, because in any case it'd be neat to use a tuner that can perform hardware blindscan like those from Pansat (DVB-S2)... unless the 'insides' of the receiver are the ones that perform it regardless of the tuner.

Looking forward by the way on those new Vantage receivers, friends of mine have Pansat, Vantage and AzBox but still i'm waiting for the right time to buy the one that convinces me the most at DVB-S2.

Cheers!

M.

Update I finally got my New Power Supply for my Azbox Premium Plus and it works fine now.

For anyone that has a Premium or a Plus box the power supply the "old version" has a green led light on it that is the one I had that blew, if it ever goes bad just contact Azbox they will send you another one free of charge.
The new version of the power is smaller and does not have any L E D lights on it..

Thanks for all your help

N2bnfunn,

How is the blind scan on this receiver when you select lower steps?
Is 4:2:2 working on this box?
Do you happen to know the tuner sensitivity range?
How fast does it switch between channels?

Great to hear about the power supply info

Cheers and happy testing.

Not N2bnfunn, but...
- As expected lower steps take more time, generally I let it use the default 5mhz, but if looking for a posted feed I'll do a search 10mhz wide in 1mhz steps and it works very well.
- Yes, 4:2:2 is working.
- Don't know the tuner sensitivity range (I'd need a very large dish and high quality lnb to even start worrying about that.)
- Switches between channels at least as, if not faster than my 9200.

Fellow Members, your posts are welcome here! Do not worry about posting everything perfect. Different receivers and LNB's will give you different Frequencies and Symbol Rates. Some set top boxes, PCI cards and USB receivers, Do Not Require all of the same information that others may need. It is not Required to post everything that others may need to tune in a feed. It is just most important to share the find. We can always adjust the Frequency and Symbol Rates and try the various Modulations and FEC's on our own receivers until we get a lock and then give a polite reply with what works for your receiver, as that information might help others as well.
